4. Women’s right varied from country to country and city to city. Over all though women from Greece to Rome to right here in the Us were all fighting for the same thing.

9. 18th and 19th century In both France and Britain in the late 18th century is when women’s rights became a larger political debate. Thinkers during the enlightenment believed that the privileged few should have been the ones to rule over the vast majority On the other hand there were philosophers out there who thought it was in gods nature for women to obey men. In 1792 a female British writer Mary Wollstonecraft argued that it was a woman’s upbringing and education that determined her expectations in life. She also wrote about have equal educational rights and that things be brought to justice. Wollstonecraft and two coworkers argued that since women like men are moral and rational being should be given the same rights as men have.
10. In 1848 the first women’s rights convention was held and 68 women and 32 men signed a Declaration of Sentiments. Then in 1869 the National Women’s Suffrage Association was formed by Susan B Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton In 1869 a male philosopher named John Stuart Mill began to fight for women’s rights Mill argued with parliament to allow women to have the right to vote and that “men” should be replaced with “person” in the Reform Bill of 1867. Though Mills attempt to bring women’s rights to parliaments attention he did manage to bring attention to most of Britain the issue of women’s suffrage. In 1896 the National Association of colored women was formed, bringing over 100 black women together The First birth control clinic was opened in NY in 1916 by Margaret Sanger In 1918 women over the age of 30 did gain the right to vote.

Modern Movements (1960s- now) By the 1960s women’s rights became known as feminism all over the globe At this point women wanted the same pay as men, to have a say in law and to make their own decisions on their family and if they wanted children. This gave women a say and gave women an opportunity to control their own life for a change. During this time there were mixed feelings on these new terms. In the UK because of both world war one and world war two people were in favor of women’s rights. Then in 1975 the first British Sex Discrimination Act came into affect. This way women would be able to make the same as men did in the work field. In 1986 there was Meritor Savings Bank v. Vinson. In this hearing the Supreme Court found that sexual harassment was a form of illegal job discrimination. Then in 1992 the Supreme court reaffirmed women’s rights to an abortion
12. In 1966 in the US, The National Organization for Women (NOW) was founded. This brought equality for all women. The NOW group was a very important group that also fought for the Equal Rights Amendment. There was still an issue when it came to women and how many children they were having or allowed to have. In the 1870s there was family limitation so there was a limit on how many children there were allowed in each family. In the early 20th century is when the term and concept advanced to Birth control. This was a way from women to choose how many children they wanted and how old they were when they got pregnant.
