3. Pearl of Indian Ocean
Sri Lanka is a small island in the Indian Ocean, near
the Southern coast of India. By virtue of the national
charm and beauty, it came to be called as the Pearl of
Indian Ocean.
4. General information's.
Sri Lanka is divided into nine province and twenty five
administrative districts. The capital is Sri
Jayawardhanapura. Colombo is its business centre. The
country’s president is President Rajapaksa. The
country gained the Independence in 1948, and now a
Democratic Socialist Republic with a population over
20 millions. . The Country had civil war for more than
25 years and in 2009 the war ended. The highest
mountain is Pidurutalagala and the longest river is
Mahaweli. Luxapana, Dunhida are some of the famous
waterfalls.
5. Cultural and Festivals
It is a multi racial and multi religious country enjoys
all religious activity. There are several religious
festivals, Sinhalese celebrate the Vasak full moon
holiday (the birth of god Buddha), and Tamils
celebrate Diwali. Also they both celebrate the Sinhala
and Tamil New year.
6. Countries Earning
The country enjoys the tropical climate. The average
temperature is about 32C. In the hill country it is
much cooler. The Country produces some best Tea in
the world. Tea, Rubber, Coconut, Gem, spices and
textiles are key exports. The Tourist trade in Sri Lanka
is excellent money spinner. It ranks the 4th among the
major foreign exchange earns.
7. Natural Resources
We can see a variety of wild animals in the game
reserves at Yala and Wilpattu. The sanctuary at
Kumana is in indeed a bird’s paradise. The botanical
gardens at Haggala and Peradenia reveals the wealth
of plant life in the country.
8. Interesting places.
The seven hot springs near Trincomalee, the sacred
mountain of Adams Peak ,the Kandy Perahera is lovely
sight to see and enjoy. There is noting to beat the
beauty of the procession of decorated elephants at the
Temple of the Tooth, The zoo at Dehiwela is the one of
the best in Asia. The Beautiful sandy beaches at Mt.
Lavina, Benthoto and Hikkaduwa are ideal for
sunbathing.

The Ruined cities Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa
and the frescoes at Sigiriya cannot be missed by any
tourist.
Sri Lanka’s national art and crafts also attract visitors
to the island.
10. Natural Disaster
The country has lovely sunshine throughout the year, but
2004 Boxing day Tsunami killed thousands of innocent
peoples. It is a small developing country and still it is
recovering from it.
