It aims to close the digital divide, promote social inclusion, and ensure citizens of all ages benefit from digital skills. Its activities center on building digital infrastructure for the city and helping businesses and residents use technology to run more efficiently.

- Digital Birmingham’s aims are citywide: To ensure that the citizens, visitors and businesses of Birmingham take advantage of digital technologies To increase Birmingham’s reputation as a European Digital City Why do we have these aims: So Birmingham residents gain some of the advantages offered through the use of digital technology - and with digital technology we mean not only computers but internet services, text services, mobile phones and underlying systems that help e.g. businesses to run more efficiently. Research shows that eg people that don’t do online shopping could be up £300 p.a. out of pocket compared to the people that do Increased reputation will help Birmingham attract strong businesses, clever people from across the world (e.g. students and researchers) and thus support its economy. And because we believe that Birmingham is a great place to live.
- Digital Birmingham
- Digital Exclusion is highly correlated with social exclusion. Socially excluded people are three times more likely to be non-users of the internet than they are to be internet users. (UK Online) And Yardley Constituency has some very deprived areas in Stechford and Yardley North so it is reasonable to assume that a high number of people there will not be using the Internet. This has implications in terms of e.g. service provision and communication with the council, the NHS etc The residents that are most in need to access services like benefits, online choiced based letting for council homes, health support etc are getting further excluded if they don’t use the internet.
