5. CLOUD vs. SAAS
Emergence of new technologies and applications generates, as
always, a perceived lexical and semantic confusion
"Cloud" is the technological platform (hardware and systems)
underlying the applications themselves
Saas applications must be considered as services that use the
innovative Cloud technology morphology to better distribute their utility
E-Learning is ideally suited to be packaged in SAAS business
solutions, relying on Cloud infrastructures that manage all the
technical features of channeling and utilization.

7. THE CLOUD REVOLUTION
Cloud allows the physical
relocation of
- Software applications
- Hardware resources
It must be considered as a corporate
strategy aimed at:
- Simplifying the work of the end users
- Reducing company costs related to the
maintenance of the technology equipment
How is the market changing
because of cloud?
Unprecedented
proliferation of cloud
solutions
Contraction of the old-
fashioned software
8. THE CLOUD REVOLUTION
- Do you feel the revolution?
- How are you facing Cloud?
- What attracts you most and less?
Q & A
9. CLOUD POTENTIALS FOR E-LEARNING
The architecture of cloud-based technology solutions fits perfectly
with the technical needs of typical E-Learning softwares:
System scalability
It allows a dynamic management of:
- peaks of traffic
- workload
on the server hosting the courses

determines the best edge location to serve it, among the 24 available
Thanks to the “you pay as you go” formula, it is possible to pay only for
what you use, with no up-front costs
12. - Are you already involved in E-
Learning?
- For new adopters: jump into E-
Learning using Cloud/SAAS solutions
- For early adopters/conservatives:
are you in-house or Cloud? If in-house,
are you planning to change?

15. Challenges
CLOUD E-LEARNING CASE STUDY
We want to present a case study that focuses on the benefits of
adopting cloud-based solutions for E-Learning.
We managed an E-Learning project for “Assofin”: this customer has very specific
technical and educational requirements.
All the training process is concentrated in a few months, and not spread
throughout the year.
Many users to be managed (around 70.000)
Financial E-Learning Projects
Long periods of inactivity
Some peaks of traffic (from October to January)

Solutions allowed by Cloud Tech:
Usage of shared technical resources, with a dynamic management of computing
power, so as to offer top-notch performances, even under heavy traffic, with no
extra charge.
Moreover, at the same price we have better results, because operations are
managed using RAM memory, instead of slower hard disks.
17. CLOUD: RISKS, OPPORTUNITIES AND SAFETY
1. At which step are the cloud-based solutions in the technology evolution cycle?
We can talk about technology that can truly revolutionize the market... or is there a risk of over-
estimating what will turn out to be just a fad?
Gartner says: “The industry is just beyond the Peak of Inflated Expectations, and headed for
the Trough of Disillusionment”
2. Cloud hosting means that data is stored on the vendor's server: what about safety?
- Where is my data?
- Who is responsible for it?
- What about data theft?
Two final issues:
