The Dyer Parks & Recreation Board meets regularly on the 2nd
Wednesday of each month for their monthly meeting and on the 4th
Wednesday of each month for a study session. Both meetings are
held at the Town Hall at 6:30pm.

Living Tree & Park Bench Memorials

Park Bench Memorials are also available. For a donation of $750 we
will install a park bench with a plaque on the seat back of the bench
in a park of your choice. Exact locations will be determined by staff
but suggestions are welcome. For more information on either
program contact Dyer Parks & Recreation at (219) 865-2505.

Park rules are enforced by the Dyer Police Dept. If you see someone vandalizing or
violating these rules please call the Dyer Police Dept. at (219) 865-1163.

Town of Dyer Residents and Non-Residents

Dyer-Munster Recreation Partnership

Programs and Services are available to both residents and
non-residents of the Town of Dyer, Indiana. Residents are those that
pay taxes to the Town of Dyer through your property tax bill.
Residents also typically pay for water service through the Town of
Dyer and not a private water provider.
Unincorporated areas of Dyer, Indiana 46311 are non-residents as
zero of your tax dollars support the Town of Dyer and respective
departments. Non-residents typically pay a higher fee for participation
in most programs and events. If you have a question as to whether or
not you are a resident, please call us with your address.
Please be prepared to show proof of residency at registration.

In a continued effort to bring more recreational opportunities to the
residents of the Town of Dyer, Dyer Parks & Recreation has entered
into a partnership with Munster Parks & Recreation.
Town of Dyer residents can register for recreation programs with
Munster Parks & Recreation at the Munster resident rate.
Registration for the Munster program must be done through the Town
of Munster. This partnership does not include pool fees (season
passes, admission or rental fees), facility rentals (shelters, gazebo,
dog park, Plum Creek Center, social center), or Munster ‘Keen-ager’
programs. For more information contact Munster Parks & Recreation

General Information

Help improve the quality of life and the environment by having a tree
planted in one of your Dyer Parks to remember or honor a person or
organization. A minimum donation of $200 will purchase a tree.
You may designate the park but Dyer Parks & Recreation will determine the exact location. Trees are planted each fall. As part of your
donation, the person’s name, year of donation and park will be added
to one of the Living Tree Memorial plaques on display at the Dyer
Town Hall.

1. Parks are open from Dawn until Dusk (unless authorized by permit or Parks and
Recreation activity).
2. Pets are allowed in town parks according to posted restrictions. They must be
leashed and cleaned up after. Owners are responsible for their pets.
3. Motorized vehicles are prohibited in parks except in designated parking areas.
4. No alcohol is allowed (unless authorized by permit).
5. Golfing is not allowed in parks.
6. No littering or dumping of household garbage or yard waste.
7. Fishing is not allowed at Pheasant Hills Park lake.
8. All town ordinances will be strictly enforced.
9. Groups of 15 or more require a permit.

Most activities have registration deadlines. Don’t wait until the last day to register as a program may already be filled up.

Early Childhood

Kindermusik Programs
In Kindermusik classes, the instructor leads a group of parents and their children through joyful activities, using music and movement. Parents learn more about their
child’s unique developmental process, and the shared learning experience creates a bond as the child associates learning with fun, musical play. Sign language is
incorporated into each of the classes. Material fees are paid to the instructor at the first class. This fee is in addition to the program fee. Min. 4/Max. 8 students per class.

Kindermusik Village (newborn – 2 years old with parent/caregiver): 14 week session / 2 curriculum

Village introduces multiple levels of activities appropriate for the different stages of development in this age range. Relaxation and social times are built into the
45-minute lesson to meet adult needs. Parent/caregiver participation required. Sign language is incorporated into class.
Dew Drops: Dew Drops takes Child and Parent/Caregiver into the middle of a flower garden, seeing the Dew Drops glisten in the morning sun and feeling the cool
breeze blow, a true multi-sensory experience! Varying styles of music are represented from the lively Celtic dance of the Belfast Hornpipe to the gentle, soothing melody of
Scarborough Fair. Whether hammocking, dancing a jig, exploring a drum, singing a lullaby or using a mirror in vocal play activities, Child and Caregiver can celebrate the
joys of music and their special relationship.
Cock-a-doodle Moo!: explores a farm theme through music, motion, and multi-sensory activities. Child will enjoy the movement of a “hayride,” the vocal play and
discovery using farm animal sounds (cock-a-doodle-OINK!), and lots of singing activities ranging from classic favorites like Old MacDonald and You are My Sunshine to a
Swedish rhythm song and a beautiful Armenian lullaby.

Kindermusik Our Time (2 – 3½ years old with parent/caregiver): 14 week session
The key element to Kindermusik Our Time is the use of developmentally appropriate guidelines. Children learn through interaction with materials, adults, other children
and their environmental space. Exploration Time encourages your child’s discovery of instruments, textures, sounds and movement. The anticipation and rewards of
listening are introduced, and with turn taking activities, social skills blossom. Sign language is incorporated into class. This class prepares your child for the independence
of preschool. Parent/caregiver participation is required.
Away We Go!: Toddlers love to GO in Away We Go! Going is their gift, their license to venture out into the world and their means of retreating to the security of Dad or
Mom. With toddlers’ desire to go comes an attraction to other things that go – people, animals, pull toys, tricycles, cars, planes, and the list goes on. Away We Go! Focuses
on things that go, leading you in an exploration into the world of transportation. “What are things that go?” “How do they go?” “How do they sound when they go?” “Can I go
like that?” “Can I make sounds like that?” Guided by these simple questions we will journey through developmentally appropriate activities relating to trains, cars, buses,
horses, wagons, airplanes, and boats.

Kindermusik Imagine That! (3½ – 5 years old without parent): 14 week session
The class is designed for children to attend without an adult for about 30-35 minutes and then parents/caregivers and siblings join the class for the last 10-15 minutes
for sharing time. The first day of class parents stay for the entire class with no siblings. Within the weekly lessons and at home, your preschooler’s unique affinity to learn
through pretend play is the foundation to this musical curriculum. Sign language is incorporated into this class.
Toys I Make, Trips I Take: What’s more exciting to a 3 or 4 year old than a new toy? How about an entire Toy Shop full of toys! A remarkable toy shop, filled with
boats, trains, ball, jack-in-the-box and many other toys is exactly what your child will enjoy in Toys I Make, Trips I Take. While activities are centered on a child’s pretend
play and imagination, the unit firmly integrates the learning process by placing a strong musical emphasis on singing, steady beat and ensemble, as well as rhythm and
rhythmic patterns.

Kick’n with the Kids

NEW! Easter Egg Decorating (2-6 yrs old)
New craft this year! Children ages 2-6 will have an Eggcellent time while
decorating a one of a kind wooden egg. Participants will paint and decorate
the egg with various art supplies. Your child will bring home a craft that you will be
able to proudly display. Registration deadline is April 2.

Early Childhood

Spring is right around the corner and your little buds are anxious to get out and
have some fun. Children will gather to create a cute flower craft and we will supply
all materials. This craft is not only adorable to display, but incredibly edible and
refillable! Register before March 7th in order to ensure a spot.

Children will participate with their parent/caregiver as they are introduced to
soccer. This program aims at teaching the importance of sportsmanship and
teamwork while also making new friends. Activities will concentrate on
introductory skills and techniques while also keeping things fun. Children should
wear gym shoes and shin guards and bring a water bottle. Balls and t-shirts will
be provided.

Dyer Parks & Recreation has teamed up with Midwest Training & Ice Center to offer you these classes at a special rate.
No registration fee will be charged and you will be able to choose from various class times and days.
Participants must call Midwest Training at (219) 558-8811 to schedule class days, times and availability.
Participants are only purchasing 1 - (4) week consecutive program through the Dyer Parks & Recreation Department.
Dyer Parks is not responsible for the scheduling of any classes.

Mommy & Me Gymnastics

This class will give you and your child the opportunity not only to learn
fundamental gymnastics skills and practice gross motor skills, but to have social
time interacting with other parents and children while spending quality time
together. Each week new skills will be introduced while reviewing previous
learned skills. Children at this age learn from repetition and enjoy seeing the
same familiar setup. Attire: loose comfortable clothes & hair neatly off face.

they will utilize three different events, choosing from: floor, beam, bars, vault, and
trampoline. Attire: Leotards are recommended or athletic shorts and t-shirt

This class will give you and your child the opportunity to learn fundamental
gymnastics skills and gross motor skills, as well as social skills. Each week new
skills will be introduced while reviewing previous learned skills. Children at this

learn a variety of skills throughout this class such as forward and backward rolls,
cartwheel, seat drop on the trampoline, and spotter pike jump on the double mini

Two Hour Tumbling

This class provides your child with the opportunity to advance his or her
tumbling skills, and is tailored to each individual’s ability level. With 3
spring-floors, two tumble tracks, and foam pits, MTIC is the largest and best
equipped facility in the area. Through various drills and exercises, children will
learn a wide variety of new tumbling skills, and are able to spend a substantial
amount of time at each station. Attire: Girls-T-shirt (no camisoles), shorts,
and hair neatly off face. Boys-shorts, and t-shirt.

Knitting
Participants will be amazed at the fact that this craft is both creative and
inspiring. Walk away with a feeling of accomplishment when you see the beautiful
wearable and decorative items that you can make for yourself. Knitting is not only
relaxing, but it helps to relieve tension and it’s FUN! Even if you know how to knit,
this is a great opportunity to relax and socialize. Participants are required to bring 2
(size 8) knitting needles and 1-skein of knitting worsted yarn (no variegated or dark
colors please). Items can be purchased at any craft store.

Youth

Messy, Messy! We can handle any bunnies mess. Join us as we dye hard boiled
eggs the traditional way and enjoy creating other types of eggs in a very
untraditional way. Let your imagination run wild and let us provide all the materials.
Registration deadline is Thursday, April 3.

Stay active and have some fun! Register now for bowling. Each week we’ll bowl
as much as time permits. We’ll have no more than three kids per lane to ensure
more bowling time. Fee includes games and shoe rental for entire session.

Wado-Ki Karate
Sensei Roger Jerome (9th Degree) and Sensei Dotty Jerome (7th Degree)
have spent years developing Wado-Ki, a style of the ancient Okinawan martial art
of Karate that stresses discipline and promotes fitness.

Bowling Fundamentals
This class will be an introduction to the wonderful sport of bowling and is
perfect for children in grades K-8. During this class, children will learn about
sportsmanship and will gain confidence and positive self-esteem. Bowling can
be enjoyed as a family or an individual and will reinforce math concepts when
keeping score. This program will also help with motor skills, movement concepts, social behavior, responsibility, physical fitness as well as hand-eye
coordination. Younger children will learn how to hold the ball and throw. Older
children will do the same along with learning the approach, release, follow

Join Guy Gallicho, mentor to the Joyriders group, as he reacquaints participants

clinic is designed for adults who are interested in being reintroduced to riding a bike

Spring Appraisal Show

Moms and sons, join us for our 9th Annual Mother-Son Scavenger Hunt! It’s
a special activity for moms and sons to spend some fun time together. What a
wild and wacky time you’ll have. You’ll be given a long list of items to find and
places to go during our allotted time which will translate into points. Special
prizes and awards will be given at the wrap up celebration back at Town Hall
where we will also have refreshments. The Hunt will start and end at Town Hall.
Use of a vehicle is strongly suggested as participants will need to visit places in

2014 Picnic Shelter Reservations
Reservations for the picnic shelters in the Town of Dyer parks are accepted in person on a first-come, first-served basis, during
business hours in January for the same calendar year. A reservation guarantees the shelter availability for the day desired. Town
ordinance also requires any group of 15 or more people must have a permit to use the parks.
Full payment (fee + deposit) in the form of cash or check is accepted to hold the date and is non-refundable. The clean-up and
damage deposit of $50 is mandatory for all shelter reservations and is refundable upon Park Board approval. The 7% Indiana General
Sales Tax is added to the fees below but not to the clean-up and damage deposit. Shelters are typically available for reservations
between May 15 - October 15.

General Information

Refund Policy
All refund requests must be made in writing prior to the rental reservation date and submitted during regular business hours. Any refunds will be
considered at the next monthly Park Board meeting, and upon approval, will be mailed to the customer in the form of a check. Refunds take
approximately 3-6 weeks to process.
Facility Rentals:
Facility rentals that are canceled 14 days or more in advance of the rental date will receive a full refund minus a $10.00 administrative fee.
Facility rentals that are canceled between three-thirteen days in advance of the rental date will receive a full refund of the clean-up and damage
deposit and a 50% refund of the rental fees.
Facility rentals that are canceled 48 hours or less in advance of the rental date will receive a full refund of the clean-up and damage deposit but
will not receive any refund of the rental fees.
Once the date of reservation has passed, no refunds will be given for facility rentals.
Any facility cancelations made by the Town of Dyer Parks and Recreation department will cause a 100% full refund to the renter with no
administrative fee.
Refund requests for non-use of a facility due to documented medical emergency or death will be considered on an individual basis taking into
consideration the expenses incurred by the Park Department.
Recreation Programs and Trips:
No refunds will be given for trips unless the seat can be resold. If it can be resold, a refund will be made subject to a service charge of $5.00.
Class cancellations made by the Parks and Recreation Department will result in a 100% refund that will be mailed to the customer. If the customer
is a minor, the refund will go to the Parent/Guardian who signs the registration form. If you wish to apply this refund to another class, you must
notify the Parks and Recreation Department immediately.
Refund requests received 5 or more business days before the first class meeting will be approved, less a service charge of $5.00.
If a refund request is received less than 5 business days prior to the start of a class and it causes enrollment to fall below the minimum and the
vacancy cannot be filled; no refund will be given. If enrollment does not fall below the minimum, a refund will be given less a service charge of
$5.00.
Refund requests received after the start of a class shall be denied except that such a refund request based upon a medical doctor’s written
excuse submitted prior to completion of the class will result in a pro-rated refund (except as hereinafter provided) based upon the number of
classes held prior to the date of the refund request, less a $5.00 service charge and program supply costs. If such a refund request causes a
class to fall below the minimum number required, and the vacancy cannot be filled, no refund will be given.
All recreation program and trip refunds applied for are subject to a $5.00 service charge, except that fees of $10.00 or less shall be subject to a
service charge equal to 10% of the fee. This policy was adopted 2/9/2011 by the Park Board.

Photo Policy
On occasion, Town of Dyer staff or designee may take photos or video
of participants in programs & events or people in our parks.
Please be aware that these may be used in future publications, on the
Town website, our Facebook site, press releases or
for local public access. We also welcome the local press to cover our
programs and special events and grant them permission for the same.

Winter Coloring Contest
Stop by the Dyer Town Hall to pick up a
copy of our winter coloring page! You can also
print the picture from our website. Return to the
Dyer Parks & Recreation Department by
January 31st. Pictures will be displayed at the
Dyer Town Hall until the end of February. Prizes
will be awarded for 1st & 2nd place in each age
group.
Age groups: 3&4, 5&6, 7&8, and
9&10 years old.

Note: For safety reasons, children 12 and under are not allowed in the dog park area.

Dog Park Seminar

This FREE seminar is a must for all dog park participants as well as all dog owners. During this 2 hour seminar, Dr. Jokela, owner of
the Deer Run Animal Hospital, will be presenting information on dog park safety and etiquette. Topics will also include: how to know if your
dog is the right dog to take to the park, how to prepare yourself and your dog, how to identify safe play behavior, dog communication,
danger signs and how to protect your dog from health risks. Prior phone registration is required!

Special Information

The Dyer Dog Park is NOW OPEN! Located at Central Park, the three acre facility includes a small dog area and a large
dog area, complete with benches and dog waste stations. The dog park is open daily from dawn to dusk 365 days a year.
Each area of the park includes its own water fountain for the dogs
(but is only on seasonally during the warmer times of the year).
Individuals and their dogs visiting the dog park must be registered at the Dyer Town Hall Parks and Recreation office.
Please read through the dog park registration packet which includes more useful information, details on dog park
requirements, the registration forms and waiver. The packet can be found on the website at www.townofdyer.com/parks or
at the Dyer Parks & Recreation office.

The 14th Annual Daddy-Daughter Dance will be held
on Saturday, February 15th from 6-8pm.
Tickets are only sold in advance at the Parks & Recreation
office at Town Hall. Each daughter will receive a picture with their
dad and refreshments.
Get your tickets before we sell out!
Volunteer Mom’s are needed to help serve the refreshments.
