3. History of RCPL: Sandhills
Branch
• Richland County Public Library Sandhills
Branch opened in the spring of 1993. This
library serves the Clemson Road area in
Northeast Richland County.
4. My Interview With Mr.
Staskowski:
• 1. If I’m a first grade teacher, what could my
students do here if I brought them in a group?
He answered:
Your students could tour the library, have
story time with one of our librarians, use the
card catalog on the computer and learn about
different fiction and nonfiction books.

• 2. If you’re not equipped to handle groups of
students, do you have personnel who can
come to my school?
He answered:
Yes. We do outreach events if it’s requested.
You can chose where to go. The downtown
RCPL does it for the entire system. We also
offer a summer reading program.

• 3. Your website says that you provide programs for children. What are some
of those programs and when do they occur?
He answered:
We have a story time for all ages. We have hello baby for the mother and
the baby. We have mother goose for children and parents. We have toddler
time where the child is own their own and the parents can wait on them. We
offer craft time along with story time. We have exceptional you for children
with special needs. These stories have more pictures and shorter stories.
You have to be prepared for unusual likes and dislikes and go in with lots of
alternatives. We have a homework lab that meets every Monday and we
just received grant funding for this. We’re going to apply for more money
this year. We will also provide food. We provide volunteering opportunities
for children 9-unitl teen years. They usually work for an hour and we have
lots of kids who try and come.

• 4. Other than your website, do you have
handouts that provide additional
information about serviced useful to
students or parents of school age children
and may I have some of these handouts or
flyers to share with my class?
He answered: Yes. (He gave me handouts).

• 5. What do you think the best thing about your
library is, in regard to school age children?
He answered:
Our staff. Our staff reminds people what to do and
they push people to do their very best. If the library
doesn’t have a book somebody wants, they can
get it within one day. We also have a great
collection of books and a lot of space.

• 6. Are children who do not go to Summit
Parkway Middle School allowed access to
the library and may they also check out
books?
He answered:
Yes. Anyone is welcome to our library.

• 7. Who may use your auditorium and how
does one go about reserving it?
He answered:
If you go to our website, it explains
everything. Try to be flexible with our meeting
room. Homeowners association are the
biggest users. We are trying to make it
available to tutoring groups. We usually need
to know 24 hours in advance.

• 8. In terms of education, what other services
that I have not mentioned do you provide?
He answered:
I think I have covered everything. To be sure I
haven’t missed something check our website.
