Lesson Delivery:

Monday: (VISUAL/AUDITORY/KINESTHETIC)
  1. check hw and planners
  2. Warm up – use p. 19 in text to answer the following: what is a compass
     rose used for? why is the equator important? Why is the prime
     meridian important? How many continents are shown on the map?
     Name them. How many oceans are shown on the map? Name them.
  3. Chpt 1, sect. 6 – Hemispheres, Continents, and Oceans (p. 19) read
     aloud (see LG 14)
  4. using reading notes on p. 8 of ISN, students work in pairs to answer
     questions on cards handed out by teacher (three at a time). Once
     questions have been answered, students raise hands, teacher checks,
     and gives out next set of cards (ten in all).
HW: hemispheres and continents sheet 1

   3. Chpt 1, sect. 7 – Earth and Sun (p. 20) read and discuss (see LG 15)
   4. using reading notes on p. 9 of ISN, students work in pairs to answer
      questions on cards handed out by teacher (three at a time). Once
      questions have been answered, students raise hands, teacher checks,
      and gives out next set of cards (ten in all).

Content Objectives: Language Objectives: – The student will understand TIW how geographers show - review hemispheres, information on maps continents, and oceans - describe the relationship between Earth and the sun - show how a round world becomes distorted on a flat map - review the tools of geography Vocabulary: Building Background: All chapter 1 vocab learned so far See warm-up questions Regular Materials: Supplemental Materials: Textbook, notebook, key vocab overhead projector, transparencies, dictionary, pencil, interactive phase 4 cards, phase 5 cards, phase 6 student notebook cards, review sheet, white boards, expo markers Lesson Delivery: Monday: (VISUAL/AUDITORY/KINESTHETIC) 1. check hw and planners 2. Warm up – use p. 19 in text to answer the following: what is a compass rose used for? why is the equator important? Why is the prime meridian important? How many continents are shown on the map? Name them. How many oceans are shown on the map? Name them. 3. Chpt 1, sect. 6 – Hemispheres, Continents, and Oceans (p. 19) read aloud (see LG 14) 4. using reading notes on p. 8 of ISN, students work in pairs to answer questions on cards handed out by teacher (three at a time). Once questions have been answered, students raise hands, teacher checks, and gives out next set of cards (ten in all).
