A short tutorial on how to properly cite your sources!

“plagiarize” means:
 to steal and pass off (the ideas
or words of another) as one's
own
 to use (another's production)
without crediting the source
 to commit literary theft
 to present as new and original

of fraud. It involves both stealing
someone else’s work and lying

3.  I copied a quote from a book
or journal and forgot to add
quotation marks and cite it in
my bibliography.
 Is this plagiarism?
 Yes, the proper steps need to
be taken otherwise you would
be plagiarizing.
 If you’re quoting it, cite it!
 I used quotations and added
a quote from a book or
journal. I also cited the book
or journal in my bibliography.
 Is this plagiarism?
 No! If you’ve taken all of the
correct steps, you haven’t
plagiarized!

4. 3-Steps to Avoid Plagiarism
1. Portion of book or journal is
in quotation marks.
2. After quotation end, author’s
last name in parentheses.
3. Citation included in
bibliography.

The sun is located outside of the earth.
According to scientist, Window Lemon, “the
sun lights the Earth while the Earth turns on
its axis every 24 hours” (Lemon).
[BIBLIOGRAPHY]

5.  Paraphrasing is allowed, but you
should still cite the area in the
paper and in your bibliography.
Here’s an example!
 Authors words: “The sun lights the
Earth while the Earth turns on its
axis every 24 hours” (Lemon).
 Your words: The Earth is lit by the
sun while it turns (Lemon).
 Add it into your bibliography and
you’re good to go – you’re not
plagiarizing!
