In this blended presentation, we will cover two different but related topics: The reorganization or Technical Services at the University of Northern Colorado and the launch of a homegrown MS Access application to proactively check our e-journal holdings. In 2008, the University of Northern Colorado created a task force to re-configure Technical Services into a new model. The genesis of this decision was the awareness that electronic resources in all their variety were here to stay and knowledge about how to acquire, license, mount, maintain, afford, and renew these resources should not reside with a single E-resource librarian but should be shared across the department.

1. Procedures for proactively checking e-journal holdings
1. Open Pro~Link
2. Click on the URL for the title that appears in your dashboard.
3. Check what holdings are listed in Pro~Link and click on the first year listed in
the e-journal’s site (for example: if Pro~Link states that our access is from 1999-
present get to the 1999 volume on the e-journal’s page).
4. Try to open a full text document from that volume. If successful, move on. If
not, click on the “report a journal access issue” button in Pro~Link and document
the issue.
5. Try to open a full text document from the latest issue listed as available in
Pro~Link (for example: if Pro~Link states that our access is from 1999-present get
to the current volume on the e-journal’s page). If successful, move on. If not,
click on the “report a journal access issue” button in Pro~Link and document the
issue.
6. If the e-journal’s website lists more years than we show in Pro~Link, try to open
a full text document from an earlier volume. If successful, continue trying to
open earlier volumes until you have determined what should be the proper
holdings statement for this journal. Title changes sometimes occur with journals;
be mindful that earlier issue might be from a different title. Document the new
holdings by clicking on the “report a journal access issue” button in Pro~Link.
7. In Pro~Link, document the number of full text document you viewed and
whether the title was fully functional. The date and your initials will be
automatically added to the form.
8. Use the arrow key at the bottom of the form to move on to the next title.
