To eliminate gender disparity in
primary and secondary education,
preferably by 2005, and in all levels of
education no later than 2015.
 The world is very uneven in not only wealth but also
in gender equality.
 Yemen, is ranked one of the most unequal countries in
the world when dealing with gender equality.
Although the government of Yemen has made positive
moves towards eliminating gender inequality the
status of women in Yemen still needs further
development to ensure that they enjoy the same access
to human rights as men.
 Following Yemen in the highest ranked unequal
countries are; Chad, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and
Turkey.
 Promoting gender equality
makes good business sense.
 Achieving gender equality
helps to ensure improved
labour environment within a
firm.
 Better communication between
management and workers.
 An increased number of women
managerial positions.
 Increased productivity.
 Reduction in salary gap.
 Reduction in maternity-related
discrimination.
 Nearly all countries have improved between
girls and boys in primary education. Africa has
made significant gains, with Guinea and
Ethiopia. China has achieved gender parity in
primary education and India has made
significant progress.
 However, girls are still more likely to be out of
school than boys in many countries and the
gender gap remains wide in secondary
education. The amount of women employed
outside agriculture is increasing, but very
slowly.
 No, unless the pace of progress
increases dramatically, as there is
only three year left to complete all
goals.
 We can achieve gender equality by:
 educating girls
 increasing literacy rates among women
 increasing early childhood development
interventions
 increasing women’s labour force participation
and strengthening labour policies affecting
women
 improving women’s access to credit, land and
other resources promoting women’s political
rights and participation
 expanding reproductive health programs and
family support policies
