2. The idea
• 2006 by Kaldbaks-kot and North Sailing.
• Diamond Ring Road is a Nature-Based initiative which aim
was to enlarge the stay of tourists who, originally would
travel to the region to visit Dettifoss, Ásbyrgy and Mývatn,
as well as to set Húsavík as the main base of tourism in
Þingeyarsyrlur.
• Or: putting in order actors (tourist, offer, nature, etc.) and
relations between them to optimize results.
“A tourism product can be almost anything that provokes
human curiosity and as long as that “anything” is named,
described, priced and offered” Ateljevic and Li

The diamond Circle or Diamond Ring Road, it is today a 4 days proposed itineraries that allows visitors to see every of the declared “diamonds” in the west of Þingeyarsyrlur region. From Húsavík, the whale watching capital of Europe, head east, across to the Vatnajökull National Park. Here you will find the canyon of Ásbyrgi, with its echoing rocks at Hljóðaklettar and the most powerful waterfall in Europe, Dettifoss.FromDettifoss the road leads west to Lake Mývatn with its unique range of geological hotspots to explore and birdlife of world renown. Finally, from Mývatn the road leads back to Húsavík through the countryside. Making a slight detour here, you can visit Goðafoss, the waterfall of the Gods. These places are the main diamonds but along the road are numerous other smaller diamonds including Æðarfossar waterfall, Krafla and the turf houses in Grenjaðarstaður to mention but a few.One could easily spend an entire week visiting all the different sights there are on offer within the circle. Together they form a microcosm of all that is wonderful about Iceland.Negatives of Social Capital: exclusion and restrictions of individual freedom (do not count: very inclusive + liberty for both sides tourists and entrepreneurs”.
