Problem solving project
1.
2. MY PROBLEM
The fifth grade class is having a pizza party. The teacher ordered 4 cheese
pizzas, 4 sausage pizzas, and 4 veggie pizzas. If each pizza is divided into 6
pieces and each student gets 3 pieces, how many students are there?
My final answer was 24 students.
My work for this problem is on the next slide.
4. MY STRATEGY
I drew a picture to solve my problem. I picked drawing a picture
because I thought it would be easier to see the pizzas and be
able to see all the slices and divide them up myself. It made it
easier for me to see how many slices there were and it made it
easier to see and solve for the total amount of students.
5. WHAT I DID AND WHY
1. I drew all the pizzas, 4 cheese, 4 sausage, and 4 veggies. I also drew
them cut up into 6 slices. I did this because the problem said that there
were 4 cheese pizzas, 4 sausage pizzas and 4 veggie pizzas and each of
them were cut into 6 pieces.
2. Since I know each student gets 3 pieces, I outlined groups of 3 pieces
so I could easily see groups of 3 on each pizza. Since each student gets
3 pieces, that’s why I divided the pizzas into groups of 3 pieces.
3. I counted all of the outlined parts to get the number of students. I
counted because this would give me the total number of students. I got
a total of 24 students.
