i-Leaktek 6600 Leak and Seal Strength Tester---Film Package Test
Scope
i-Leaktek 6600 Leak and Seal Strength Tester is designed for determination of seal strength and seal performance test of
various heat sealed flexible package and sterilized package, seal performance test of pilfer-proof closures, quantitative
testing of leak characteristics, compression resistance, capsule disengaging strength, cap body joint strength, seal-edge seal
strength and butting strength of flexible tubes, and testing of anti-compression, seal performance and burst resistance of the
bottles.
Test Procedures
A: Power the instrument on and warm up for at least 30 minutes. Prepare the specimens as required and the number of the
specimens should not be less than 5. Examine the specimens carefully and make sure the specimens are free of visible
imperfections. Especially the sealing area should be intact and free of air bubbles, creases or pinholes. The detection probe
should penetrate into the test specimen from the same position.

B: Before test, the height of probe should be adjusted according to the flexible package’s size and its expansion after air
filling. Fill test gas until the specimen expands adequately. Observe the depth of probe in specimen. The proper depth
should between 3~5 mm.
C: Mount the specimen and set up test parameters.

D: Start the test. First perform “Burst Test”. The obtained result is the pressure when the specimen fails. Generally at least 3
specimens are required for burst test. The minimum value among the 3 specimen test results should be taken as the burst
strength of the test specimen. Observe the burst position which should be at the sealing edges.

E: Then perform “Creep Test” and “Creep-to-Failure Test”. In creep test, the test package is placed in the instrument and is
pressurized to a specified value. Then maintain this pressure for a specified period. Creep test is used to test the seal
strength of the test package. In creep to failure test, the test package is pressurized to a specified pressure and maintained
until the package fails. This test mode is not suitable for high permeable materials.
F: View the test reports and test curves. Repeat the above procedures to continue to perform more tests if necessary.
