welcome, especially members of the LGBT+
community.The invisibilty of sexual orientation
makes it difficult for LGBT+ students and
colleagues to know where to safely turn for
support and information.The Safe Zone symbol
delivers the message,“It’s OK here.”
Safe Zone is a program designed to foster a
welcoming and supportive campus for LGBT+
students, faculty, and staff.
Participants complete a training program to
increase their knowledge about lesbian, gay,
bisexual, transgender concerns.They serve as an
informal resource and provide support to
LGBT+ people and help them access campus
resources.
Look for the Safe Zone symbols throughout
campus to help you identify Safe Zone
participants.

RockOUT is the student lesbian, gay,
bisexual, transgender, and ally organization at
Slippery Rock University. Members of
RockOUT educate the campus and the
community on LGBT+ issues. Everyone is
welcome to be apart of the organization-
allies included.
An ally is a self-identified straight individual
who supports members of the LGBT+
community through friendship and advocacy.
All information shared at RockOUT is held
in confidence. Every first time attendee is
required to sign a Confidentiality Form stating
that they will not share personal information
disclosed at meetings.

While RockOUT is currently the only student
organization that focuses exclusively on gender
identity and sexual orientation, students
celebrate diversity is a variety of aspects.

The PASSHE Lesbian, Gay, Bixsexual,
Transgender, Queer, Questioning,
Intersex, and Allies Consortium exists
to ensure and strengthen a visible, safe,
equitable, inclusive and welcoming
community for people of all sexual
orientations, gender identities, and
gender expressions throughout
PASSHE and its constituencies through
education, advocacy, assessment,
community engagement and activism.
The consortium is working to
accomplish its mission by networking
and working toward change at the state
level. Members will also support activity
on the local level by working with
individual universities in the system.
