1. Feng Shui

2. What is it?
• Daoism- the ancient Chinese system of the study of nature
• Feng Sui (Fuhng Shwey) - practice of arranging objects, so that
you are a part of nature; instead of just sticking out
• About living harmony with the surroundings, it is believed that
Feng Sui is a tool to ensure health, wealth, and power.

3. Origin of Feng Shui
- Feng Shui is almost completely based on the I Ching, the ancient
Book of Changes
- Emperor Fu His (Foo-shee), circa 2500BCE, was the main
founder of the I Ching
- It stresses essential associations between, destiny and nature
and suggests an insight into the universe as special force in
which all things exist
- With this wisdom he founded a practice called Feng Shui
- He taught his people how to reorganize their homes, to the
rhythms of nature, providing them with a harmonious living and
security

4. Nature in Feng Sui
• An important aspect in Daoism is Nature,
two ways shown is through paintings
and medicine
• Water is very important because it follows its
natural flow
• Feng Sui shows respect
for nature by adjusting
our homes to geographical
features of nature

5. Ch’I
• Ch’I- described as the energy of life,
also be your soul, destiny, or luck; it
is everywhere
• Good Chi brings happiness; way to
collect good Chi-have it flow through
time and space.
• Wind causes Chi to dissipate too
quickly, water causes Chi to not move,
so, must be a balance. Flow- be an
easy breeze. Feng Sui - translates to,
“Wind and water,” this balance
directly connects to the idea of the
Yin and Yang.

6. Yin and Yang - Balance
• The Yin and Yang represent opposites that constantly seek for balance
• A strong value of Daoism and Feng Shui is having a balance in everything
• The arrangement of the house is based on the direction in which it faces
• The five different elements should be distributed equally in your house,
by have the corresponding color of the element
• There is a house plan (shown on the next slide) of the elements and
corresponding colors for the rooms to the north, south, east, west,
northeast, northwest, southeast, and southwest
