SPECIAL NEWS The US Reuters/Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index grew to 86.9 in October, from 84.6 recorded the previous month, according to data released by the Reuters/University of Michigan. Analysts expected an increase only to 86.4 . UK consumer confidence fell slightly in October, research firm GfK revealed on Friday with an index score of -2, down from -1 in September, and represents a three-month low. A negative score means that pessimists outnumber op- timists. The index was dragged lower by weakness among the sub-indexes for 12-month economic outlook and major purchases.
The US Department of Labor reported today that the ad- vance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 287,000 for the week ending October 25, an increase of 3,000 from the previous weeks revised level.
COMMODITY BUZZ Crude oil futures are trading lower in Asia. WTI Crude oil prices dropped even as the global equities edged up in last week as calming comments from OPEC and strength in the US dollar hit sentiments. Demand worries continue to haunt crude oil as prices linger around their multi year lows. The WTI Crude oil futures failed to follow equities and traded near $80 per barrel, its lowest levels in two years. MCX Crude oil futures for November slipped under the key Rs 5000 per barrel mark following this. After a low of Rs 405 per kg on 17 November 2014, the prices of Copper recovered but were still unable to cross Rs 420 per kg in October. The prices recovered and ended at Rs 414 per kg at the closing of the month. Though the expectations of the prices to breach Rs 420 per kg on the closing basis were met, it was not sustained. Resistance for the contract is at Rs 420 per kg. Open interest is at 9178 against 9102 on 30 October 2014. Volume increased on Tuesday which indicates that the prices of Copper are in for some choppy sessions. On the lower side, Copper is ex- pected to remain tugged at Rs 410 per kg. The prices are moving towards lower sides even the 9 day EMA for it is coming at Rs 415.8, while the prices are hovering at Rs 414.7. .
