Talk given by Michael Damkot, Principal Network Engineer at Salesforce, at Interop in May 2016 A variety of efforts are underway to bring more programmability and automation to network management. These efforts are important because traditional methods can’t match the speed or scale required by modern applications and services, both in the data center and the cloud. One mechanism to drive the evolution to a truly programmatic network is declarative network configuration, in which the expected state of the network is maintained in a configuration repository. Software is then used to instantiate the desired state on network devices. Such software helps engineers and administrators provision network services more quickly, build more reliable networks, and shift their time and resources away from tedious configuration tasks to tackle more interesting challenges. This talk aims to help you re-think how the network is managed. I’ll offer tips from my experience with declarative network configuration and its effectiveness in the real world, and describe tools I’ve leveraged in the pursuit of a truly automated and framework, including Ansible and Puppet.

Unit testing is an important part of verifying that code works as expected. However, how many tests do you need to write before you can be confident that you’ve done a good job? Where should you be spending your time writing tests, and how do you know when you’re done? In this talk, we discuss a systematic approach to unit testing WordPress plugins using phpunit. We show how to set up a simple test suite, to examine the code coverage options, and to identify the most risky areas of our code that are in need of tests.

CAST 2014 New York: The Art and Science of Testing The Association for Software Testing www.associationforsoftwaretesting.org COURSE DESCRIPTION Automated tools provide test professionals with the capability to make relevant observations even in the fastest-paced environments. Automated testing is also a powerful tool for improving communication between software engineers. This is important because good communication is a prerequisite for growing a great software engineering organization. This workshop will explore the continuous testing of software systems. Special focus will be given to the situation where the engineering team is deploying code to production so frequently that it is not possible to perform deep regression testing before each release. People who participate in this course will learn pragmatic automated testing strategies like: * Data analysis on the command line with find, grep and wc. * Network analysis with Chrome Inspector, Charles and netcat. * Using code churn to predict hotspots where bugs may occur. * Putting stack traces in context with automated SCM blame emails. * Using statsd to instrument a whole application. * Testing in production. * Monitoring-as-testing. Technical level: participants should have some familiarity with the command line and with editing code using a text editor or IDE. Familiarity with Git, SVN or another version control system is helpful but not required. Likewise some knowledge of Web servers is helpful but not required. It is desirable for participants to bring laptops. BIO From 2010 to 2012 Noah was a Test Architect at Etsy. He helped build Etsy's continuous integration system, and has helped countless other engineers develop successful automated testing strategies.These days Noah is an independent consultant in New York. He is passionate about helping engineers understand and use automated tools as they work to scale their applications more effectively.

Антон попробует ответить на все эти актуальные вопросы и конечно приведет множество примеров для наглядности и практического подтверждения. Мы проговорим «хорошие» варианты параллельного запуска автоматизированных тестов, но так же рассмотрим ситуацию с противоположной стороны «от противного». Проанализируем десяток «плохих» решений по параллелизации на реальных примерах – сложных, медленных, дорогих, неэффективных. Фактически, беседа будет состоять из двух частей: «что такое хорошо и что такое плохо» в примерах, с аргументацией и рекомендациями.

It combines memory safety and concurrency to create an independent, modular, and embeddable rendering engine that adheres to web standards. Stewardship of Servo moved from Mozilla Research to the Linux Foundation in 2020, where its mission remains unchanged. After some slow years, in 2023 there has been renewed activity on the project, with a roadmap now focused on improving the engine’s CSS 2 conformance, exploring Android support, and making Servo a practical embeddable rendering engine. In this presentation, Rakhi Sharma reviews the status of the project, our recent developments in 2023, our collaboration with Tauri to make Servo an easy-to-use embeddable rendering engine, and our plans for the future to make Servo an alternative web rendering engine for the embedded devices industry.
