2. What are citations and resource lists?
A list of resources from your lecturer
A reference to a book, article, website or
other published item with details to locate it
Often has a consistent style of presentation
– called a citation style
The citation style for this subject is the La
Trobe Harvard Referencing Style

book chapters or sections.
3. Use the Search tool on the
Library homepage.
Book or journal article?
Books have publisher and place
of publication details.
Journals will have volume and
issue numbers.

Searching:
Be as precise as possible
Try the author’s last name with the
title of the book or journal, e.g.
Harvard business review and collis
and competing on resources
Sorting the results:
Reduce search results to Scholarly or
Peer-reviewed
For Content Type – tick the required
resource to match your citation type
Access the resource by clicking on
the title or the online logo

5. Can’t find the resource?
Much academic literature is not freely available on the internet.
Not all resources will be found using one source. Try searching another library tool.
Catalogue search
Good for searching books (online and print), DVDs, journal titles
Does not contain individual articles from newspapers and journals
1. Select the Catalogue tab
2. Type in your search terms
3. Select Title from the drop-down menu
4. Mildura and Shepparton campus students
need to select their campus to search for
books in their library’s catalogue
5. Click Go to start the search
Journals search
Use this if you know the name of the
journal containing the article
1. Select the Journals tab
2. Type in the name of the journal
3. Click Go
Leave Print & electronic and Title as the default
search
