Area liaison officer
Together with our parent partnership advisers,
the area liaison officer also offers information and
advice to schools and services, supporting them
to work positively with parents.
Community support
Various workshops are provided at local venues
across the county, offering a variety of training
and surgery sessions, as well as information days.
These are sometimes held, together with
other organisations.

Support for parents of
children with special
educational needs
Surrey Parent Partnership is part of the National
Parent Partnership Network (NPPN) which is
hosted by the Council for Disabled Children.
Who are we?
Surrey Parent Partnership provides
support and advice to parents/
carers of children and young people
with disabilities and/or special
educational needs (SEN) aged 0-19
and up to 25 if disabled.
The support and advice we provide is impartial,
confidential and free. Our experienced team will
listen to your concerns and discuss any issues in
confidence.
Our service is statutory and is available to all
Surrey parents.‘Parents’includes all those adults
with parental responsibility.
We aim to build partnerships between parents,
the local authority and schools by empowering
those parents and families of children with SEN
and/or disabilities to take an active and informed
role in their child’s education and development.
How can we help?
We can offer information on:
•	 your rights and responsibilities
•	 who to talk to in school about your concerns
•	 how your child is assessed and helped in
school
•	 what happens during a statutory assessment
•	 what you can do if you are not happy with a
decision made about your child’s SEN
•	 Surrey policies and processes
•	 national policies and legislation
•	 other services.
Calls are varied and can range from parents who
have concerns about their child’s progress in
school, through to parents with children who
have complex needs and difficulties.
Surrey Parent Partnership ensures that parents’
views are heard and understood, and that these
views inform local policy and practice.
We provide
support by:
•	 listening to your concerns
•	 exploring options
•	 talking through and preparing paperwork
and completing forms
•	 joining you at meetings or helping you
prepare for them
•	 ensuring your views are heard
•	 looking at ways of overcoming differences
where there is disagreement.
