A giraffe is an herbivoreand that is a type of animal that only eats
plants. These animals can use their verylong necks to grab the
leaves that or on very talltrees. But the tree that they will normally
eat is the acacia trees. A giraffe will go seven days without drinking
any water. When they are not drinking any water than they will get
their drink from the leavesthat they eat and their leaves has lots of
moisture in them and that is the reason why they do not drink a lot of
water is because they drink from the leaves that they eat from the
trees. A giraffe can eat more food than just leaves they can also eat
twigs, grass and they can also eat fruit. The food that the giraffe will
eat is leavesand they will normally get their leavesfrom these types
of trees and they are acacia, mimosa and they will also get their
leaves from wild apricot trees. These animals haveverylong tongues
that can be bigger than 18 inches so that they can pluck a leave
from a tree. If a giraffe needs to it can go for months without drinking
any water at all. Another name for an herbivorecan also be called
a plant eater. They are also a special type of animal that is called a
browsing animal and they normally feed on leavesthat they find on
trees. The trees that the giraffe eats from usually has verylong thorns
and that will usually keep the browsing animals from eating their
leaves but the thorns cannot stop a giraffe from eating their leaves .
The giraffe will normally pull the leaves and the thornsinto their
mouths. Then after that is done than the giraffe will use lots of saliva
and that will help the giraffe to chew and to shallow their food. A
giraffe will eat other vegetation foods besides leavesand thorns they
can also eat different flowers, fruit and seeds. The type of food that
the giraffe will eat is normally leaves, twigs, and tree bark which is
where they get off of the thorny acacia plant. The giraffe does not
get bothered by the thornsthat is because they will just eat around
them. On what protects them is their verystrong lips and their very
thick saliva and this will protect the giraffe is all different typesof
thornsthat comes their way.
Habitat/Range
A giraffe lives on the African grasslands also known as savannas. The
other places where the giraffes live is on dry savannah and they can
also live on the grasslands that is in Africa. The typeof places where
giraffes can be found is in central, eastern or in southern Africa. The
typeof habitatsthat they live on is the savannasthat are in Africa.
This is where they live in all of the tall trees. The other habitatsthat
they live in is in arid land, dense forests and they can also be found
on the open plains that can be found in Africa as well. These animals
can only be found on the continent of Africa. The ranges where
these animals live is on the pockets of Africa which is in South Africa
and on the Sahara desert these are the types of ranges where the
giraffe lives. The best habitat to find a giraffe is on the Savanna. They
can be found on all the areas that is in Africa but they do not live on
the west side of Africa and it is really rare to find them in that part of
continent. The typeof habitatsthat the giraffe lives on is open
grasslands that are usually covered with trees all over the place. So
that they can eat the leavesthat are on the trees. The only place in
the world to see a giraffe is in Africa. The type of habitats that these
animals live in is that they live on the savanna grasslands. The typeof
habitatsthat giraffe lives on is the savannas, open woodlands and
they will also be found on the grasslands that are in Africa. The parts
of Africa that they can be found is in south that is in the Sahara
Desert. The type of habitatswhere these animals live on is the
savanna, bush, scrub, and they can also be found on the open
acacia woodlands; semi-arid regions and they can also be found in
regions that is in dense vegetation.
Size/Weight
The size of an giraffe is 19 feet (6 m) tall and they can weight about
2,800 pounds (1270 kg).The other size of the giraffe is 14 to 17 feet
tall and they can also weight about 1,200-4,250.The giraffe is the
tallest land mammal in the world. The size of an female giraffe is 14
feet (4.3 meters) tall and the size of the males is that they can be
bigger than 18 feet (5.5 meters). The females weight about 1,500
(680 kilograms) and the males will weigh about 3,000 pounds(1,360
kilograms). The height of the males and that will also mean the
giraffes horns so the males height is 4.7-5,3m and the height of the
females is 3, 94,5m. The weight of the male giraffe is 800-1930kgand
the weight of the females is 550-1180kg.in the first year of an giraffes
life they will grow about 4 feet (1.2 meters)(0.5 – 2 tons). The size of
an female giraffe is can be up about 14 feet (4.3 meters) tall. The size
of the males are 18 feet (5.5 meters). The weight of an female giraffe
is 1,500 pounds (680 kilograms). The weight of an male giraffe is 3,000
pounds (1,360 kilograms). The height of an male giraffe and that also
means their horns to is 4.7 – 5.3m and the height of the females is
3.94.5m. The weight of the male giraffe is 800-1930kgand the weight
of the females is 550-1180kg. The body length of a giraffe is 3.8 and
4.7 m (9.75 – 15 ft. the length of the tail is 78 and 100 cms (31 – 39
inches). The shoulder height of a giraffe is 4 and 4.7 m (13. 1 – 15.4ft)
and they can weight about 0.6 and 1.9 tonnes (0.5 – 2 tons). The size
of an adult giraffe is 14 to 19 ft ( 4 to 6 m) and the weight of these
animals is 1.750 to 2,800 lbs (794 to 1,270 kg). The size of an adult
male giraffe is 6.2 m ( 18.6 ft) and the size of an female giraffe is 5.3
m (15.7ft).The weight of an male giraffe is 1,100-1,915 kg (2,420-215
lb) and the weight of an female giraffe is 700-1,181kg (1,540-2600
lb). The size of an bull giraffe is 18 feet that is on the top of their horns
and the size of the female giraffe is really shorter than the males and
they can grow about 15 feet. The giraffe is known to be the most
tallest animals in the world and these animals can grow about 17
feet tall and they can weight about at least 3,000 pounds. The
giraffe’s size is not the only thing that is tall on these animals these
animals also havevery long heartsand they can be as long as 2 feet
and their heart can weight about 20 pounds. They reason why they
will need these verybig hearts so that it can pump a lot of blood into
the giraffes neck. The height of the Rothschild giraffe can reach
about 20 feet and the adult males can reach about 17 feet and the
females can grow about 15 feet and the weights of the adults
griaffes is 1,500 to 2,500 pounds. The height of the Reticulated giraffe
can grow about 18 feet. The height of the male giraffes is 17 feet
and the females can grow about 15.5 feet and the adults can
weight about 2,500 to 2,500 pounds.
Life Span
A giraffe can live about 15 to 20 years. The giraffes that live in the
wild they can live about 25 years and the giraffes that live in
captivitythey can live about 28 years. They can live much longer
when they are in captivity. The normal life span for a giraffe is about
25 years. These animals can live also live about 20 years as well. The
averagelife span for giraffe is 25 and this is when they are living in
the wild.
1 interesting fact
The giraffe is the tallest land animal on the planet. These animals are
so tall that they can look into a second-floor window without even
using their tiptoes. The giraffe has more long body partsbesides their
neck. They also haveverylong legs to. Their coat has a brown
pattern that has brown patches that is on lighter yellow background.
The giraffe does not just havea long neck and legs they also havea
long tongues and the size can be as long as 19 feet (6 meters) tall.
The size of the legs is 6 feet (1.8 meters). The legs of the giraffe can
run as fast as 35 miles (56 kilometers) an hour over short distances
and cruise comfortably at 10 miles (16 kilometers) when they are
running in long distances some people think that the tongue can be
18 inches long as well. There are other names to call a female giraffe
and it is called a cow and the other name for a male giraffe is called
a bull. The giraffe only has 7 vertebratesin their neck and the size of
the neck is about 600 pounds (272 kilograms). The size of the giraffes
legs is 6 feet (1-8 meters) long. Their back legs are a lot shorter than
the front legs are but they are still the same length. These animals
also havea big hearts to and they are 2 feet (0 .6 meters) long and
the weight is 25 pounds (11 kilograms and its lungs can hold 12
gallons (55 liters) of air. The giraffe closest related is the okapi.
2 interesting fact
Giraffes live in a group that is called a herd there can be about 3 or
40 giraffes that can be in this family. Normally the composition of the
herd always charges constantly.Normally the giraffes that live in
these groups is the females and their babies. The males are not
territorial but they will fight to see which one is stronger and they will
normally fight over mates and they will fight with their necks. The
male giraffes will protect the females from males so that the females
don’t haveany courtship with another males giraffe. That is why they
fight. Sometimes therecan also be 12 members in the herd to and
they count on a lot of protection not only from other males but also
from predators to. The young males do not stay in the herd forever
they normally live in a small group and when the males gets a lot
older than the male will start to live on their own. The fights that goes
on between giraffes are known to happen not so often but when
they some reason a fight does happen than normally two bulls will
usually be the ones that fight but males will fight with their heads and
they fight with their heads and they fight with them by smashing
them against the other males body. But the males skull is actually
verythick and it is that thick so that it does not get destroyed when
they are fighting. Young males giraffes really know how to work out
their position when it comes to the herd and they will do it by
necking. The male giraffe will normally use this by wrapping their
necks around the enemy and than they will start to push and pull
each other to death.
3 interesting Fact
There are a lot of people that think that the giraffes do not haveany
sound so that they can talk to other giraffes but the truth is that they
do havea voice and the typeof sounds that giraffes uses for
communication and they use so many different types sounds and
those sounds are moos, roars, snorts, hisses, and grunts. The thing is
that they do not talk a lot. When there is danger in the area than
giraffe will short so that is can warm the herd that thereis danger
nearby lots of studies has shown that the vocals of the giraffe is really
hard to hear with the human eat the sounds that they use will be
much better to hear in a long distance communication most of the
time the giraffes is known to be a veryquiet animal when a mother
has lost her baby than she will use a veryloud bellow the most
important communication for a giraffe is their eyesight because they
can see other giraffes by the pattern of their markings that is on their
coat that on the giraffe is just like a human fingerprint that is
because each giraffe has their own special spots all giraffes do not
havethe same set of spots all of the 9 species of giraffes can all be
noticed by their unique coat patterns. There are some giraffes like
the Reticulated giraffes their spots are all evenly shaped but the
other species like the Masai giraffe they haveirregular patches that
havejagged edges on them. The last species of giraffe is the
thorniceoft giraffe and they havea mix of an even and they also
haveuneven patchesthat can be found on them. Every single
giraffe all havetheir own set of spots that are on their coats every
single one is different it is just like our fingerprintsare. The giraffe is the
only animal in the world that has its own species but they do have6
different subspecies. All the different subspecies all havedifferent
coat patternsand they all live in different parts of Africa. The color
an giraffes coat is light tan sometimes their coats can almost be
black to. The most difference between the subspecies is what type
of food that they eat and what part of Africa do they live in. Every
single giraffe all havetheir own special pattern coat just like humans
with their fingerprint everygiraffe has their own set pattern markings.
The Masai giraffes ( they can be found in Kenya) these giraffes coat
patternslooks like an oak tree. Every single subspecies of the giraffe
all havedifferent patternson their coat like the Masai giraffe they
live in Kenya their coat patternslooks like oak trees. The ungranda
giraffes their spots are verylarge and the color of their spots are
brown splotches separated by thick, beige lines. The last giraffe is the
reticulated giraffe these giraffes are found on northern Kenya these
giraffes havea dark coat on them that has an web that has an
narrow white lines on it lots of researchers believe that the
reticulated giraffes are so very different than the other subspecies of
giraffe that is because these giraffes should be declassed as an
separate species. Giraffes also share their habitat with other animals
to and the animals that live with these animals is the lion, hyena,
African wild dog, African elephant, springbok, Impala, Buffalo,
Hartebeest, White-eared Kob, and the Hippopotamuses.
Responding
A female giraffe will only give birth to only one calf and the
gestation period for a giraffe is in fifteen months. The first
week of the baby’s protect them very careful. That is
because they are very young giraffes can be a very easy
catch for a predator that is because they cannot protect
themselves from danger. When the mothers is out to get
some food than the baby will be kept in a very small nursery
group that is filled with lots of baby giraffes . A giraffe will be
ready to mate during the dry season and they will also mate
in the months of May and August. When they are done
being pregnant which is in 15 months. A baby calf will start
to stand on it’s own and it will only take 20 minutes for then
to do this. A newborn baby giraffe will grow about 6.5 feet
tall. A giraffe baby will start to grow very fast. The females
will be pregnant about 15 months right before the giraffe is
about to give birth. The size of an newborn giraffe is 6 feet
(1.9 meters) tall at birth and they can weight about 150
pounds (58 kilograms). A baby giraffe is called a calf. In the
moment that they are born they first take their first walk in
only about a few minutes . A baby giraffe can be an very
easy catch for a predator like an lion and some calves
normally do not survive their first week of life. A mother
giraffe will do anything to make sure that her baby is safe.
The way on how the mother protects the baby she can help
the bab to find a safe hiding place and than the mother will
battle with the predator that wants to eat her baby. A baby
giraffe grow up very fast and they can grow over 2 inches in
one day. The baby will continue to stay with its’ mother until
for 2 years or when they are ready to take care of
themselves. The time that the females will be ready to mate
is when they are 3 or 4 years old. The gestation period for a
giraffe is about 14 to 15 months. A female will give birth to
calf that will be standing 6 feet tall and they can weight
about 150 lbs. a female giraffe will be ready to have her first
baby when the she is 5 years old. After the male and the
female is done mating than the female will be pregnant 15
months. A female will only give birth to one calf at a time.
Having twins is very rare for a giraffe meaning that giraffes
never have twins. Mother giraffes are super protective with it
comes to their baby and the mother will protect the calf by
kicking any animal that comes in contact with them. A lot of
baby giraffes are mostly born always in the same place that
is because most calves survive more. When they are born
together this is really a good track for predators that is
because the predator will have a hard time seeing them.
Giraffes will actually give birth in a place that is called a
calving ground. Normally the mother will always come back
the other place she had babies before when she is in heat
again. Females giraffes again. Female giraffes will reach
maturity when they are 3 or 4 years old. The gestation
period for a giraffe is between 14 to 15 months. A female
giraffe will give birth to a calf when it is standing 6 feet tall
and it can weigh about 150lbs.
Survival Status
The giraffe is not an endangered animal but they live in protected
areas. There are about 100,000 giraffes that are lifted in the wild
today. But in one time they almost become extinct that is because
people havebeen hunting them down. The reason why people do
hunt giraffes is because for their meat, coats, and for their tails to.
People havebeen using the giraffe’s tails so that they can make
good luck bracelets, fly whisks, and they can also make string for
sewing beads out of these animals tails. The giraffe’s coats are used
to make shield coverings.Hunting is not the only problem that these
animals are facing. They are also dealing with habitat destruction
that means that these animals are losing their homes because
people are cutting down their home so that they can make room for
houses and cities out of them. The other problem that these animals
are facing is that all of these threatsare hunting thegiraffes
population so verymuch. The giraffes population that are in so many
African countries are starting to shrink that is because the giraffes
habitat is being taken over by people so that they can havea lot of
room for their livestock. The futureof the giraffe depends on how
many habitat that it needs to live. But numbering havebeen
decreased in the past. The giraffe is not an endangered animal but
they are listed as lower risk. The reason why these animals are not
endangered is because people are not scared of them, they are not
hunted for folk medicine remedies. These animals do not compete
with food with livestock like sheep, and cows and they do not eat
farmers crops. The population of the reticulated giraffes is that they
havedropped by an alarming 80 percent that was just in 10 years.
The reason why is because of poaching. Giraffes can not take down
people that havegunswith them. The reason why people kill giraffes
is because so that they can make meat, hide, bone marrow and
also for their tail hair to. But for the other species of giraffes is totally
fine meaning they are not endangered. The people that live in
Kenya are starting to make an giraffe conservation program for
these three subspecies and they are the reticulated, Uganda and
the Masai giraffes.

The males are not territorial but they will fight to see which one is stronger and they will normally fight over mates and they will fight with their necks. The
  • 6. male giraffes will protect the females from males so that the females don’t haveany courtship with another males giraffe. That is why they fight. Sometimes therecan also be 12 members in the herd to and they count on a lot of protection not only from other males but also from predators to. The young males do not stay in the herd forever they normally live in a small group and when the males gets a lot older than the male will start to live on their own. The fights that goes on between giraffes are known to happen not so often but when they some reason a fight does happen than normally two bulls will usually be the ones that fight but males will fight with their heads and they fight with their heads and they fight with them by smashing them against the other males body. But the males skull is actually verythick and it is that thick so that it does not get destroyed when they are fighting. Young males giraffes really know how to work out their position when it comes to the herd and they will do it by necking. The male giraffe will normally use this by wrapping their necks around the enemy and than they will start to push and pull each other to death. 3 interesting Fact There are a lot of people that think that the giraffes do not haveany sound so that they can talk to other giraffes but the truth is that they do havea voice and the typeof sounds that giraffes uses for communication and they use so many different types sounds and those sounds are moos, roars, snorts, hisses, and grunts. The thing is that they do not talk a lot. • 7. much better to hear in a long distance communication most of the time the giraffes is known to be a veryquiet animal when a mother has lost her baby than she will use a veryloud bellow the most important communication for a giraffe is their eyesight because they can see other giraffes by the pattern of their markings that is on their coat that on the giraffe is just like a human fingerprint that is because each giraffe has their own special spots all giraffes do not havethe same set of spots all of the 9 species of giraffes can all be noticed by their unique coat patterns. There are some giraffes like the Reticulated giraffes their spots are all evenly shaped but the other species like the Masai giraffe they haveirregular patches that havejagged edges on them. The last species of giraffe is the thorniceoft giraffe and they havea mix of an even and they also haveuneven patchesthat can be found on them. Every single giraffe all havetheir own set of spots that are on their coats every single one is different it is just like our fingerprintsare. The giraffe is the only animal in the world that has its own species but they do have6 different subspecies. All the different subspecies all havedifferent coat patternsand they all live in different parts of Africa. The color an giraffes coat is light tan sometimes their coats can almost be black to. The most difference between the subspecies is what type of food that they eat and what part of Africa do they live in. Every single giraffe all havetheir own special pattern coat just like humans with their fingerprint everygiraffe has their own set pattern markings. The Masai giraffes ( they can be found in Kenya) these giraffes coat patternslooks like an oak tree. Every single subspecies of the giraffe all havedifferent patternson their coat like the Masai giraffe they live in Kenya their coat patternslooks like oak trees. The ungranda giraffes their spots are verylarge and the color of their spots are brown splotches separated by thick, beige lines. The last giraffe is the reticulated giraffe these giraffes are found on northern Kenya these giraffes havea dark coat on them that has an web that has an
  • 8. narrow white lines on it lots of researchers believe that the reticulated giraffes are so very different than the other subspecies of giraffe that is because these giraffes should be declassed as an separate species. Giraffes also share their habitat with other animals to and the animals that live with these animals is the lion, hyena, African wild dog, African elephant, springbok, Impala, Buffalo, Hartebeest, White-eared Kob, and the Hippopotamuses. Responding A female giraffe will only give birth to only one calf and the gestation period for a giraffe is in fifteen months. The first week of the baby’s protect them very careful. That is because they are very young giraffes can be a very easy catch for a predator that is because they cannot protect themselves from danger. When the mothers is out to get some food than the baby will be kept in a very small nursery group that is filled with lots of baby giraffes . A giraffe will be ready to mate during the dry season and they will also mate in the months of May and August. When they are done being pregnant which is in 15 months. A baby calf will start to stand on it’s own and it will only take 20 minutes for then to do this. A newborn baby giraffe will grow about 6.5 feet tall. A giraffe baby will start to grow very fast. The females will be pregnant about 15 months right before the giraffe is about to give birth. The size of an newborn giraffe is 6 feet (1.9 meters) tall at birth and they can weight about 150 pounds (58 kilograms). A baby giraffe is called a calf. In the
  • 9. moment that they are born they first take their first walk in only about a few minutes . A baby giraffe can be an very easy catch for a predator like an lion and some calves normally do not survive their first week of life. A mother giraffe will do anything to make sure that her baby is safe. The way on how the mother protects the baby she can help the bab to find a safe hiding place and than the mother will battle with the predator that wants to eat her baby. A baby giraffe grow up very fast and they can grow over 2 inches in one day. The baby will continue to stay with its’ mother until for 2 years or when they are ready to take care of themselves. The time that the females will be ready to mate is when they are 3 or 4 years old. The gestation period for a giraffe is about 14 to 15 months. A female will give birth to calf that will be standing 6 feet tall and they can weight about 150 lbs. a female giraffe will be ready to have her first baby when the she is 5 years old. After the male and the female is done mating than the female will be pregnant 15 months. A female will only give birth to one calf at a time. Having twins is very rare for a giraffe meaning that giraffes never have twins. Mother giraffes are super protective with it comes to their baby and the mother will protect the calf by kicking any animal that comes in contact with them. A lot of baby giraffes are mostly born always in the same place that is because most calves survive more. When they are born together this is really a good track for predators that is because the predator will have a hard time seeing them. Giraffes will actually give birth in a place that is called a
  • 10. calving ground. Normally the mother will always come back the other place she had babies before when she is in heat again. Females giraffes again. Female giraffes will reach maturity when they are 3 or 4 years old. The gestation period for a giraffe is between 14 to 15 months. A female giraffe will give birth to a calf when it is standing 6 feet tall and it can weigh about 150lbs. Survival Status The giraffe is not an endangered animal but they live in protected areas. There are about 100,000 giraffes that are lifted in the wild today. But in one time they almost become extinct that is because people havebeen hunting them down. The reason why people do hunt giraffes is because for their meat, coats, and for their tails to. People havebeen using the giraffe’s tails so that they can make good luck bracelets, fly whisks, and they can also make string for sewing beads out of these animals tails. The giraffe’s coats are used to make shield coverings.Hunting is not the only problem that these animals are facing. They are also dealing with habitat destruction that means that these animals are losing their homes because people are cutting down their home so that they can make room for houses and cities out of them. The other problem that these animals are facing is that all of these threatsare hunting thegiraffes population so verymuch. The giraffes population that are in so many African countries are starting to shrink that is because the giraffes habitat is being taken over by people so that they can havea lot of room for their livestock. The futureof the giraffe depends on how many habitat that it needs to live. But numbering havebeen
  • 11. decreased in the past. The giraffe is not an endangered animal but they are listed as lower risk. The reason why these animals are not endangered is because people are not scared of them, they are not hunted for folk medicine remedies. These animals do not compete with food with livestock like sheep, and cows and they do not eat farmers crops. The population of the reticulated giraffes is that they havedropped by an alarming 80 percent that was just in 10 years. The reason why is because of poaching. Giraffes can not take down people that havegunswith them. The reason why people kill giraffes is because so that they can make meat, hide, bone marrow and also for their tail hair to. But for the other species of giraffes is totally fine meaning they are not endangered. The people that live in Kenya are starting to make an giraffe conservation program for these three subspecies and they are the reticulated, Uganda and the Masai giraffes.
