This document discusses effective communication skills. It defines communication as the exchange of thoughts, opinions, or information through speech, writing, or signs. Effective communication is a successful, intended exchange that can be learned over time through practice and experience rather than innate talent.
Key aspects of effective communication identified are listening, understanding, and providing feedback. Listening is the most important part of communication - one must pay attention to fully understand what the other person is saying. Understanding is also crucial, as communication cannot be effective if the message is not understood. Finally, for communication to be complete, feedback must be provided by the recipient to acknowledge receipt of the message.

Effective Communication Skills
1. EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION SKILLS
INTRODUCTION : Owing to the fact that the term communication cannever be neglected in our
day to day life, that's whywe want to talk about it in details and we hope at the end we will
succeed inshowing youhow effective a good communication is inour day to daylife. Our main
topic for today is effective communication skills. If Imayask you all can we do away with
communication? I believe the answer is no,thenwhy not we use it at the best of it all . Now
back to our maintopic.
POINT ONE : let's start withthe word EFFECTIVE, the word itself is an adjective one can use to
expressasuccessful desired or intended result, andthe word communication.
communication:is from a Latin word calledcommunicaiowhich meansto share, please take note
of the word Share. Furthermore Iwill give you at least three different definition of the word
communication
1. The act of impartingor interchanging of thoughts, opinionsor information byspeech, writing or
signs.
2. Somethingimpartedinterchange,or transmitted.
3. Passage or an opportunity or means of passage between two places.
We strongly believe that this three point have successfully explain the termcommunication
from all aspect of it very existence. Fromall the point, now we can clearly see that
communication is a two way deal, always about two pointor more from point A-B so with this
fact we can say that communication isatwo way stuff. Now the word skills.
SKILLS: one can best explain this as the abilitycoming from the knowledge , practice anaptitude
from a person to do something sowe see here thatskills has nothing to do withyour talent,
your giftor anythingthat comes with you.By default, skill issomethingyoucanlearnanytime,
anywhere,anyhow.
2. POINTTWO
Can we now say that the informationone caries iswhatHe or She is? Inother words, the
informationyouhave is whoyouare. Is these true? At this point I will like us tojoin this three
words together and let's make sense out of it. Youwill all agree with me that joining this words
will give us this: a successful or a desired means of sharing information which one can learn over
time irrespectiveof hisorher abilities.
Do youknowwe have basicallytwomeansof communication?
The firstis the Verbal means, these isbythe use of words.
The Secondis bythe use of sign language, thisiscommunicationbymeansof gesturesandsymbols. This
iscommonlyusedbythose whoare hard-of-hearingand betweenpeoplewhohave nolanguage in
common.
Now if youwill permit me I will like to center this topic on humans and how best they can
interact withone another, as well as withtheirenvironment.
Thistwo meansmentionedearlierare mostlyassociatedwith humans.There isasayingthataction
speakslouderthanwords, how true isthese? Very true, if a father ask his son not to eat with his
left hand and yet he always use his left to eat when he is together with the son, tell me what
will the son do when the father is not there to stop him.
Let’stake a lookat the followingBible Passages:
Proverb21: 23 Whosoeverkeepethhismonthandhistongue keepethhissoul fromtroubles.
James3: 2 (-12) For inmany thingswe offendall.If anymanoffendnotinwords,the same isa perfect
man,and able alsoto bridle the whole body.
Matthew15: (17- ) 18 But thingsthat whichproceedoutof the month come forthfrom the heart;and
theydefile the man.
We tried to established a fact from the beginning of this talk that what you have inside you is
whoyou are. Mathew 15:18 and James3:12. Itis only whatyou take in that youcan bringout as no
fountaincanbringforth bothSaltyand FreshWater. We should therefore be mindful of what we
take in for these is surly what we will take out. Why doyou thinkcommunicationisveryimportantto
us? if we are to say it with numbers we can go all day on the numbers alone without mentioning
the advantages. Youall will agree with me that it is very vital forus to be able to communicate
well with our society and everything in it for us to coexist.
What if I tell you that communication iskey to our very existence!!!!!one may tend to
neglect this but if all should be neglected, this should not.Atall cost.
POINTTHREE
3. Short story
Take prayeras case studyhere ,eversince man sinned againstGod,manwas banishedfromthe
gardenof Edenman has one onlywayof communicating to God that is through prayers. You see
prayeris veryimportanttoChristians.A Christianwithabad prayerlife isaweek Christian,aChristian
witha good prayer life isa good Christian.Soyousee, prayeriskeyto his Christian life.Doyouall
agree withme on that? and you also agree with me that prayers is an act of communication.well
if yes then youhave to agree that thisalso applies to us in our day to day's activities withone
another. For us to have a stronger and healthy environment a peaceful one we have to
communicate effectivelywith one another.
We mustlearnhowto listentoone another.Listeningisthe mainkeypartof communication. If God
does not listen to your prayers why then do you pray, whywaste time praying.let's take itthe
other way round if you don't listen to God then why pray. it can you cannot listen to what God
have for you according to what you ask of him thenwhy pray. if we don't listen toeach other as
a brother as a sisteras a friend asfatheras a sonand as a mother then how can we understandeach
other as humans and as part of the big society.what does itreally mean to listen, doesthat
mean someone whocan not listen is of no good to the society and to the act of communication
certainlythe answeris noyou have to payattentionto whatthe otherparty is saying thatwill take
us to our next point
ANOTHERIMPORTANT PARTOF EFFECTIVECOMMUNICATION IS UNDERSTANDING.
Understandingissomething we cannotdoaway with;we needitasmuch as we needairto survive. For
one to have an effective communication he must be able to understand what is been
communicatedto him or her.Believe me understanding is very important incommunication, let’s
take a lookat these Scenario, youwenttolamertobuytoothpaste and youactuallycan't findit so you
decidedtoaskand nobody in the shop understands English and youdon't know how to speak
Turkish, please tell me how canyou describe toanyone youneedatoothpaste. Veryinterestingyour
wordsalone are not enough tounderstand youand togive youfeedback. These takesUs to the next
part of Effective Communication;givingFeedbacks.
Feedback: For any communication to be complete one must always get a feedback ita rule.
Have you everwonderwhywhenyousendamessage yourphone tells youdelivered. Tell me one
part of communication that youhave ever witness that there was no feedback. Note, from the
start we establish afact that communication is a twoway deal.So the only feedback I expect
from you is I want to see the way we communicate witheach other improves henceforth.
Summaryfor the day,for any communicationtobe effective, one mustListen, inotherto Understand,
and then give feedback.
Thank youall for your time thanks for having us here we love and appreciate you thankyou once
more obrigados!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
