14. METRO Rail

Project brief/ background
A metro rail link is proposed to connect Ahmedabad
with Dholera. The development of which will take place
in phases.

city, Sachivalaya, Kalupur railway station etc.
The estimate construction cost of this is ~ USD 3.8 billion for route of approximately 101
km, which includes 84 km of elevated section and 16 km of underground section

15. Statue of Unity

Project brief/ background
The “Statue of Unity” is planned to be an iconic structure with the
ambition to be the tallest statue in the world at 182 m. The site is at Sadhu
island, approximately 3.5 km south of Sardar Sarovar Dam at Kevadia in the
Narmada district in Gujarat. The project envisages that the iconic statue will
become a catalyst for accelerated development in the project area
benefitting a large number of the resident tribal population there.

The Sabarmati Riverfront project is an environmental improvement,
social and urban rejuvenation project by development of riverfront
along one of Gujarat’s biggest river in the commercial capital of the
State. The objective of the urban renewal project is to improve spatial
structure and habitat conditions of the river and adjoining areas.

25. How to participate in the current opportunities
While the Government of Gujarat is committed to lay down the core
infrastructure from public funds;
• It is envisaged that most of the infrastructure will be done on PPP
basis; PPP is, thus, the preferred route
• Private players are invited to join this historic development and mega
opportunity...
Three routes for PPP...
• In 1999, the Gujarat Infrastructure Development (GID) Act was
enacted which gives legal framework & roadmap for PPP. GID Act
proclaims 'competitive bids' as the preferred mode for developer
selection and lays down detailed guidelines
• However, 'Swiss Challenge Route' also recognized to take benefits
of innovative ideas and unsolicited projects
• In 2006, project award through Direct Negotiation added.
