The opening keynote addressed the need for a post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction as the current Hyogo Framework of Action concludes. It highlighted that while progress has been made in reducing disaster losses, more work is required to strengthen resilience and reduce vulnerability to disasters globally. A new framework is required to drive further implementation of disaster risk reduction to help build the resilience of communities and nations to better prepare for and deal with future disasters.
