• Implementing the HFA has led to
the creation of 34 thematic
platforms and networks.
– the more science and
technology focused risk and
hazard networks,
– implementation oriented
networks with coordination
efforts.
SCOPE OF THE EVENT
3. GP UNISDR Featured Event
Geneva, Wednesday 22 May 2013 Walter J. Ammann
3
• Stock taking of thematic platforms and
networks based on their presentation of
their past achievements
• Discuss the future role, in particular in view
of the potential contributions to the HFA2
process.
• Discuss how collaborative networks can
proactively help generate knowledge and
good practice.
• Discuss working models and assess value
added (consult on the possibilities of
establishing “UNISDR collaborating
centers” on science as a multi-disciplinary
approach to DRR (network of networks)

briefly present in 8 minutes with a
maximum of 6 slides:
• Goals, objectives and Members of the
network/ thematic platform (1 slide)
• Major achievements in the past 5 years
(2 slides)
• Future goals and contribution to post-
HFA 2015 (2 slides)

networks on their quality and their ideas
for contributing to HFA2.
• Overview on potential synergies, over-
lapping, potential concentration of
networks/platforms.
• Overview on gaps for HFA2 in particular

Monday 20 May 2013, 15.00 – 16.50 Room
3+4
• The objective of the session is to explore
common ground on substance for a
post-2015 framework for disaster risk
reduction (HFA2). Groups will answer
the following questions:
• How do we build on the HFA and yet
ensure that we capture and formulate
ideas to reduce disaster losses over the
next 30+ years?

11
• What are your views on how best to
encourage commitment among
stakeholders?
– Whose engagement is essential?
– What are the most effective and appropriate
mechanisms to ensure a new decision-taking
model?
• There is a need to improve
implementation of disaster risk reduction
actions within HFA2.
– What mechanisms, tools or methods would
you consider are the best means of creating
this enabling environment for DRR
implementation, especially at the local level?
