AT UON
1. Founder member of One Health Central and East
Africa (OHCEA).
2. Sensitization of students and faculty on OH in the
University of Nairobi and Moi School of Public
Health.
3. Joint workshops to plan for co-teaching between
veterinary schools and schools of public health in
Kenya. An agreement was reached on co-teaching
in the areas of zoonotic diseases so that vets teach
the vet aspect while the PH schools teach the
medical aspects.

4. Workshops to institute quality assurance in the two
Kenyan Universities in OHCEA.
Institutional
champions were selected with a view to establishing
institutional research units to promote quality
assurance.
5. Review of the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine has
already been done and OH module created.
6. Carried out training needs assessment for in-service
training in One Health.
7. Formed a student’s One Health Club (active with
student exchange with CSU).

8. The network plans to use e-learning to enhance coteaching and collaboration. This has involved the
establishment of an e-learning platform in the two
OHCEA Universities in Kenya. The program is called
University of Nairobi Science Knowledgebase
(UONSK) and Moi University Science Knowledgebase.
Currently, there are trainings on the use of the
platform by faculty and students.
9. One Health focal persons have country coordinating
committees (inclusive of ministry of health,
veterinary department, center for disease control and
other stakeholders).

Ecosystems and Societies (CSDES)
The Center for Sustainable Dryland Ecosystems and Societies
(CSDES) vision is excellence in management of dryland ecosystems
and societies. To realize this, one of the strategies the Center
employs is an integrated and interdisciplinary approach to the
management of ecosystems, humans and animals (livestock and
wildlife).

This is supported through the Center objective on

‘improved coordination of interdisciplinary education, research and
outreach for drylands in Kenya.’

This has involved the establishment of an e-learning platform in the two OHCEA Universities in Kenya. Currently, there are trainings on the use of the platform by faculty and students. 9.
