Refining Resilience – Building the Strength for Long-term Leadership Success
The NSW Public Sector is an ever changing and unpredictable environment that places large amounts of accountability on leadership personnel.
Decreasing time frames, escalating pressure and heavy workloads create an increasingly difficult task to continually maintain high-performance and
fulfil potential. The complexity of issues faced as well as the set-backs experienced can also make it difficult for female leaders to maintain career and
leadership momentum.
It is therefore vital that aspiring leaders in the public space acknowledge their pressure laden environment and take steps to minimise the negative
effects, protecting their leadership progression. This interactive workshop will focus on practical techniques to reduce stress, strengthen resilience
and retain high-performance and efficiency.
During the workshop delegates will explore the intricacies of building a strong foundation of resilience knowledge and strengthen their leadership
profile with practical skills. Evidence-based, best-practice tools for overcoming stress and fatigue will be explored and steps will be taken to ensure
rejuvenated performance, optimising the capacity to lead in the Public Sector.
In this interactive workshop, Madeleine will provide practical tools for:
• Mastering stress - developing your ability to remain clear, calm and focused under pressure
• Fostering physical strength and vitality - a key element of effective leadership
• Cultivating a high-performance mindset
• Developing resilience and understanding
• Leading with perspective and purpose
• Optimising your ability to influence
• Managing personal and professional set-backs effectively
• Developing your ability to lead with enhanced emotional resilience and self-awareness
• Developing your executive leadership presence and confidence

Post-Summit Workshop 27 November 2015
ABOUT THE EVENT
The New South Wales Government has made progress in improving workforce diversity in recent years, with the Public Service Commission data showing
that women account for about two-thirds of the workforce. However despite the numbers, women are still significantly under-represented in senior
leadership positions – only approximately 30% occupy executive level roles. The goal of gender equality is one that can be achieved; however there are a
number of obstacles at both an individual and organisational level that must first be surmounted.
The recent changes in the NSW Public Sector has created a range of new opportunities for ambitious leaders. The political and structural landscape of the
Public Service provides a chance for leaders to diversify their experience and grow a holistic understanding of key management principles. Recent years
have seen traditional command and control hierarchies disrupted and increasingly replaced by collaborative leadership frame works, creating an exciting new
palette for aspiring female leaders to draw from.
In order to accelerate change in leadership representation, it is vital for women to hone critical skills, demonstrate their knowledge and capabilities, and
position themselves to seize career opportunities to step up into leadership roles. At the same time emerging leaders must turn their focus inward and
support each other through mentoring, sharing experience and networking. It is in this spirit of empowerment and collaboration, that we are proud to host
the Public Sector Women in Leadership New South Wales Summit 2015.
This is the original Public Sector Women in Leadership conference framework, and will offer an outstanding speaker faculty, sharing their insights and
experiences in order to address the challenges faced by women wishing to advance their career within the Public Sector. It also presents practical strategies
for how organisations and individuals themselves can navigate these obstacles in order to promote and support women in senior leadership roles.
