Megaproject management
Management, Procurement and Law is planning a themed issue for 2017 on
megaproject management.
A megaproject is typically a large-scale investment project costing more than
US$1 billion and causing substantial impacts on social, technical, economic,
environmental and political (STEEP) dimensions in short and longer term.
For example, major infrastructure and construction projects (worth over
£100 million each) currently under delivery by the government in the United
Kingdom aim to transform public services and deliver a robust infrastructure
system that can serve future generations. Lessons learnt from past
megaprojects across the world have identified a need to develop leadership
and management capability with regard to management, procurement and
law through the life cycle of such large-scale construction projects.
This themed issue aims to promote and support innovation and progress in
megaproject management through multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary work
in practice and research. It welcomes both experience sharing and rigorous
independent research that translate knowledge gained from practice and
research to inform both decision making and activities undertaken by major
stakeholders in megaproject development.
Topics to be covered in this themed issue could include the following:
n Best practice study on management, procurement and law
n Design and construction management
n Facilities management
n Independence and interdependence study
n Infrastructure investment justification
n Project change management
n Project engineering and informatics
n Project strategy and implementation
n Risk assessment
n Stakeholders and supply network integration
Practitioners and researchers engaged in megaproject management are
invited to submit a 200-word abstract by Tuesday 1 November 2016.
Relevant papers, including full-length papers (about 5000 words long) and
briefing articles (1000–2000 words), outside the main themes outlined
above will also be considered. To submit an abstract online, please visit
https://goo.gl/forms/FbSOuwYAYuVe1myB2. The deadline for full papers
is 1 February 2017.
