This Tour gives takes us through the lesser explored valley of Zanskar and here we
experience the vastness of this beautiful land. The roads here are less travelled and the
people and culture and traditions retain its essence. We enter into this valley through
Kargil and drive through places like Rangdum, Padum and Karsha and see some remote
monasteries. We continue our journey through this valley on a Rafting expedition for
three days to enter into Leh valley.

Day 01: Arrival Srinagar – Sonmarg(1729 m
/ 5676 ft)Arrival in Srinagar. We get a
pick-up at the airport and drive to Sonmarg.
Check in to a hotel for overnight stay.
Day 02 : Sonmarg – Kargil(2704 m / 8872 ft;
204 km; 9 – 10 hrs) Today we cross the
famed Zojilapass, the movement on this is
restricted the military convoys. We climb
over Zojilapass Pass and then pass the Dras
War memorial. Kargil is an outpost and
apart from the prominence it gained in the
recent war there is not much to
recommend it. Overnight stay in a hotel.
Day 03: Kargil – Rangdum(3980m / 13057ft; 127 km; 5hrs) We leave for Rangdum after
breakfast. Rangdum is an elliptically expanded plateau surrounded by colourful hills on
the one side and glacier encrusted Rocky Mountains on the other. Situated 127-km
South-east of Kargil, it falls midway between Kargil and Padum. On arrival we visit
TheRangdum Gompa which was founded in the 18th century. One of the major
attractions of the monastery is its small museum. Overnight stay in a guesthouse.

Day 04: Rangdum – Padum(3505m / 11499ft; 104 km; 4 hrs) Head to Padum after
breakfast. Padum the capital of the ancient kingdom of Zanskar, Padum (3505 m) is the
present day administrative headquarters of the region. With a population of nearly 1500,
Padum can be described as the most populous settlement of Zanskar, otherwise a very
scarcely inhabited valley. The nearest monument in Padum is a set of ancient rock carving
on a huge boulder near the riverbank, just below the old township. These dates from the
8th century and provide epigraphic evidence that the region was under the influence of
North Indian Buddhism since ancient times. Overnight stay in a guesthouse.
Day 05: Padum– Karsha & back(3500 m /11482 ft; 7 km; 15 mins) The Karsha Monastery
of Ladakh is situated in the Karsha village of the Zanskar region. The full name of
Karsha,is Karsha Chamspaling. Phagspa Shesrab, the translator of Zanskar first founded
this monastery.The monastery consists of a number of shrines and boasts of some of the
most exquisite wall paintings, by the Lama Dzadpa Dorje.It serves as the residence of
approximately 100 monks. Also we can visit Thugkjechhenpo Lhakhang and the
Lhakhang karpo. Also close by are the Monasteries of Khagsar, Purang and Phagspa and a
nunnery called Dorjezong, situated at the top of the valley. Drive back to Padum for

Day 06 : Padum – Zangla – Rafting(3 hrs; 2+ Grade) After a late morning start, we raft
from Padum up to Zangla ; 3 hrs). This stretch is approximately 25 km with Class II and
III rapids. Easy day to get used to the river, the altitude and hone our paddling skills.
Day 07 : Zangla – Nerak (4 hrs; 3+ Grade)After packing camp, we raft 25 km to Nerak
(3286m ; 10,780ft) a Class III section. The gorge narrows in on the river – this indeed is a
Grand Canyon in its own right. We stop for the day to pitch camp in a gorge below Nerak
village
Day 08: Rest day at Nerak Rest day at Nerak. Take a hike to Nyerak village or relax at the
Campsite. Wash up at the campsite stream and enjoy the day off.
Day 09 : Nerak – Lamaguru (5 hrs; 4+ Grade)Todays 35 km rafting section takes us from
Nyerak to Lamaguru (3190m ; 10,465ft ; 5-6 hrs including scout and lunch) through the
core of the Zanskar A classic white water day with continuous Class III rapids, and a few
Class IV rapid where the river squeezes between a gap of about 18ft.We stop for lunch
formations, spires and an amazing palette of colours add to the trip today. Camp overnight
at Lamaguru.
Day 10 : Lamaguru – Nimo (5 hrs; 4+ Grade) – Leh We raft 40 kms of Class III/IV white
water from Lamaguru to Nimu (3154m;10,345 ft) today. We stop just short of Nimu, at the
confluence of the Zanskar with the Indus river.T hen to Leh check in to the Hotel .
Day 11 : Free day at Leh – Just to catch up on some shopping and Ladhaki cuisine in Leh.
Day 12: Final Departure We drive to Leh airport and as we take off we look down on
stark beauty of Ladakh ,our minds filled with everlasting memories of our trek…
