2. From the feedback we can come to the conclusion
that our production was aimed at the appropriate
audience as the people we interviewed were aged
between 20 – 26 years old.
They scored our documentary high, this suggests
that our content was reliable and entertaining. We
can apply the hypodermic syringe theory to this to
suggest our this audience has been injected with an
ideology that the unsigned music scene is successful.
It is clear that we have achieved this ideology
through their scores.
Question 1
3. With the positive feedback we can see that our audience have
actively picked up on the information provided within the
documentary. The differences in opinions suggests that they
are active and haven't focused on one aspect of the
documentary that explains the indie music scene. We can
apply uses and gratifications to what Matt told us as he chose
to take entertainment and information from our documentary
to form his knowledge of the music scene. I would say that
Jamal has given us quite passive response as he may have
watched the documentary and purely reacted to the
entertainment side, and passively just letting the ideology
control him through this entertainment aspect, that gives him
an audience pleasure.
We can apply the reception analysis to suggest that the
audience took the dominant reading as they all accepted the
ideology that we promoted, they didn’t oppositional read and
ask questions about our choice of acts and the information
provided.
Question 2
4. We could apply the two step flow theory to the
following comments as the first three are the same
which says that Matt may be the opinion leader and
influences the other responses. As the majority told
us that it was easy to watch, this could suggest that
to a mass audience our documentary is correct and
works well in targeting their needs. As Becka told us
it was ‘Alright’ it explains how an active audience
who are searching for the information instead
wanting an instant gratification, may not follow the
documentary well enough to understand the
content.
Question 3
5. Our small and specific amount of information
provided was good enough to satisfy the
audience. We can say they are passive as our 5
minutes of content was able to inject the
ideology of the success in the indie music
scene.
Question 4
6. Applying the culmination to suggest how this audience
has been injected over time to believe that media of this
nature should be longer. As the information provided
in our documentary was short and specific the timing
was about right. The audience is likely to have been
attracted to the content, montage etc. and more of this
would have given them the entertainment pleasure.
From this we can say that it is likely our audience is
passive and crave more of the entertainment factor.
Becka suggests it could have been a feature length
profiling an artist, this would suggest that a small
audience may be interested in one artist and style of
music. For the audience we were targeting, this may
not have worked as the independent music scene
doesn’t have many well known artists who play on the
radio.
Question 5
7. We can see the audience as passive through
their need for more music which suggests that
the entertainment factor was enjoyed more over
the information. We can take from this that the
audience interviewed enjoyed the information
provided, however they were able to mostly
take entertainment from our documentary
which suggests that it would be a success to a
mass audience as well as to a smaller indie
group of musicians aspiring and looking for
personal identity.
