MTD has been in business since 1932; it started its life as a tool and die supplier for Cleveland
manufacturing companies. From there, their reputation spread and MTD began introducing new
products, such as steel stampings, tricycles, wheelbarrows, and in 1958, the first MTD lawn
mower.
Now, the MTD brand includes big names in lawn care, such as Cub Cadet, Troy-Bilt, Yard-Man,
Yard Machines, Bolens, McCulloch, and White Outdoor. With names like these, you can be
assured of a quality mower or tractor. Let's take a closer look at some of the advantages of
owning an MTD mower.
o MTD lawn mowers come with either Briggs & Stratton or Honda engines, both of which have
solid reputations for quality and durability.
o MTD mowers have 12-inch back tires, which can help make mowing hilly, uneven, and rugged
terrain easier.
o MTD riding mowers and MTD lawn tractors are available at stores such as Lowes and Wal-Mart, making them easily available. This is good, too, in case you
need to return the mower for any reason.
o MTD will service your mower for free - remember to fill out the warranty card!
o MTD mower parts are easy to get. You can go to the MTD website and order directly from there if your local Lowes or Wal-Mart doesn't sell replacement parts.
As with any product you are considering purchasing, especially something as large as mowers, you should always look at potential downsides. With MTD
mowers, here are some problems you may encounter:
o MTD established its reputation by making quality commercial mowers. Its move into the residential market has been successful, but some customers have
complained of problems with the durability of the back-end frame and transaxle on lower-priced models.
o Some customers voiced concern over the safety of the transaxle due to no braking capabilities and blade disengagement.
o This isn't a problem with the MTD brand, per se, but some customers chose the wrong model for their mowing needs. Make sure you choose the appropriate
mower depending on your lawn's terrain as well as how often you mow it.
Overall, MTD provides excellent quality at an affordable price. Remember to select the right model, and you can be on your way to keeping your lawn and yard
2. beautiful.

Can I buy replacement ignition keys for MTD lawn mower?
I have misplaced my set of keys for my MTD lawn mower and desperately need to start it. I don’t think it has a pull-start option. Can I buy replacement keys? Are all ignition
keys the same for MTD lawn mowers? If not, what other options do I have?

Is there a cross reference for MTD model numbers from Montgomery Ward numbers for riding mowers?

It really depends what parts you are looking for. Montgomery Ward parts are almost impossible to find anymore. If you are looking for belts, you can usually take it to your
local dealer and they can match up the correct size belts. For blades, many times you can find an after market company that manufacturers your blade for cheaper (ie:
stens or silverstreak) as for parts for the body of the machine you wont be able to cross reference them.
