Why does broken glass “jump” and tinkle long after it has broken?
My outdoor dining table’s glass just broke (we’re still not sure if it was spontaneous or something caused it), but the
glass continues to “jump around” and make a tinkling, crunchy sound. Is this normal? Does this mean it’s active or
dangerous in some way?

A glass table is made like a windshield, it has a plastic lament in it so when it shatters it just keeps on crumbling

Is the oak from an old dining room table when cut to size suitable for outdoor fencing?
New oak boards are so expensive I thought I might cut and plane the oak from two old tables to use as fencing
boards. The question is “Will they stand up to the weather without twisting?”.

Just an idea…. you might be further ahead to sell the tables and use that money to buy treated lumber that would
last longer.

an outdoor summer dining table,,,,, refinish to look nice and re-surface top to be durable for rain and morning dew….
THanks soooo much.

Taka a wire brush and remove all loose, peeled paint and rust. This takes patience if your table is very fancy. Then
wipe the whole thing off with a cotton cloth dampened with turpentine, or vinegar.
No paint will stick to a greasy or wet surface. First coat should be a “metal primer” or “rust retardant” type paint.
Second coat can be of enamel or paint suitable for place item is to be used, usually outdoor enamel. Sometimes
5. you can find all-in-one paints that are sufficient without using a base coat. This is usually cheaper in the long run
and easier since you don’t have to paint it twice. Look for Rustoleum or True Value’s XO-Rust paint brands. When
the paint is completely dry (a couple days) apply protective finish as if item were new.
Even small chips or scratches should be touched up immediately with primer followed by matching paint to
prevent rust forming. If you’re keeping this outdoors where it’s exposed to rain, etc. you should invest in a nylon
cover or bring it in when it’s not in use.
Good luck!

My cats were outdoor/indoor but for the last year they have been indoor only?
They have been indoor only because we live in an area with a lot of coyotes and hawks and mountain lions. However,
I am moving back to where we used to live and I was wondering would they still be okay going outside there or have
they lost their outdoor instincts from being inside for so long? They do not really like being indoors all the time. They
scratch my furniture and fight with each other. I have bought many scratching posts but they really just like my dining
room table legs. Can they be outdoor pets again?

Interstate movers charge by weight to move across state lines. You might want to have the furniture weighed and
check to see who is the least expensive – a freight company or a moving company.

How do you remove ALOT of glass from an 8 foot deep in-ground pool?
Our glass outdoor dining table was thrown into our swimming pool during a wind storm. Now all of the shattered
glass is in the 8 foot deep section of the in-ground pool. How do we remove all of the glass? We are afraid to run it
through the pump – it will cause damage. Also we can’t have all the glass drain into the street with the water. We are
also afraid that if we drain all the water from the pool, that it will pop out of the ground! Please Help!

If the pool has a concrete floor you can sweep the bottom of the pool with a broom and collect the large pieces
with a dust pan (yes it sounds strange, but it will work if you have a good swimmer…just make sure that they wear
gloves, goggles, and swim shoes, or sneakers).
Once you get all of the large pieces out, vaccume the pool on “bypass” (or whatever setting bypasses the filter),
and place netting (screen, stockings) over the end of the discharge hose to catch any of the glass pieces.
If you want to be extra careful to remove all of the glass, you can place the end of the hose into a clean trash can
7. and any shards than manage to make it through the screen at the end of the hose should settle on the bottom.
Continue vacuming until there is no more glass in your screen/stockings.

How can I decorate a wooden outdoor dining table?
Any photos/ideas/tips/equipment would be great. It’s pine wood and it needs to be waterproofed after. My mum and I
both have very conflicting ideas so anything is welcome!

Get a bit creative
If the table has been outside for a while you should give it a quick sand down then a wipe clean, After this you can
do anything you want, stick stuff to it, paint designs or patterns on it, stain it, varnish it etc. Without seeing the table
and the setting it is hard to come up with any specific ideas.
A few things to remember.
Before painting on the wood you should always prime it with a wood primer (available at any good hardware
store). Then you can paint anything you like on there, patterns, stencils, block colour etc.
you could stain the wood to change its colour, but retain the natural look of the grain. Only do this on plain wood,
i.e.previously untreated or painted. As other wise you will get an uneven colour.
once you have decorated the table finish off by putting at least two coats of yacht varnish on (again available at any
good hardware store) The yacht varnish will protect the table from the weather and give it a nice sheen. I can
advise applying the yacht varnish with a piece of sponge rather than a brush, cut the sponge into the shape of the
brush head and use it as you would the brush. It will provide a smoother finish. It is also wise to apply the varnish
indoors as it will prevent anything contaminating the finish, such as dust and leaves blowing onto it and getting
stuck.

What is the best affordable wood for outdoor furniture?
We need a new dining table and chairs for the garden. We can’t afford teak but there appears to be a wide selection of
products in either acacia wood or eucalyptus wood. Which of these two woods is the best choice and why? Of course
if anyone knows a place to buy low cost teak furniture then please let us know. Thanks

I’m just a poor good ole boy, but if you can afford to buy any wood furniture for outside, especially a dining table
and chairs, I’d say you could afford the teak.

Should smoking be banned from outdoor dining areas?
My wife and I ate tonight at Barnaby’s in West Chester, PA and really enjoyed the food. However we first took our seats
at an outdoor table at the far end of the area, to enjoy the nice weather, trees and atmosphere. However within a
couple minutes two tables next to us started smoking up a storm, and we just had to go inside. I think this sucks, that
diners who don’t smoke should be chased away by other diners who want to submit to their addiction. I can’t wait until
smoking is banned everywhere at eating areas.
Do you agree? Not? Please provide a good reason for your opinion. Smokers, please, no flaming. Nothing personal
here. Please make your (civil) case.
@voice
When is the last time you had car exhaust drive you away from anything? Walking through a parking lot of eating on
the street outside, sure, you may get a passing small of car exhaust, but rarely. Cars are pretty clean these days. To be
consisten with this analogy, you have have to have a car with a poor exhaust literally park next to your table for the
duration of your meal. I suspect that would move even YOU from your table.
