Envirokids have
implemented worm farms,
vegetable gardens and
fruit trees in a developing
orchard. A recycling
process has been put in

of rubbish going to land
fills.

Villa Maria Estate Wines
Fabian is the champion for
sustainability at Villa Maria
instilling sustainability and
environmental responsibility to
the core of the company culture
and influencing the industry.

7. Geoff Henderson
Windflow Technology
Windflow Technology is a
manufacturer of wind
turbines for renewable
energy projects and has
been at the core of the
sustainability movement for
almost a decade.

8. Greg Hall

Kohu Road crafts New
Zealand’s finest ice cream
from quality ingredients.
Greg has championed a
common sense approaches to
business and personal
sustainability throughout his
career. When founding Kohu
Road, Greg brought this ideals
with him and they have
become an integral part of the
company’s fabric.

Green Party
Jeanette has been a
significant change
agent inspiring
sustainability action
from fellow MPs,
members of the public
and businesses as well
as winning support for
Green legislation.

11. Johann Bernhardt
Bernhardt Architecture Ltd
Bernhardt Architecture Ltd has
been established in 1998 as an
income-generating architectural
office focused on sustainable
residential design. It is
complemented by the not-for-
profit research and public
education work of the Building
Biology and Ecology Institute,
which was established in 1990.

12. John L Craig
John Craig has a long
history as a sustainability
advocate. Teaching as
Professor of Environmental
Management at Auckland
University. He Chaired The
Natural Step NZ and in this
capacity he worked with a
considerable number of
New Zealand companies to
assist them introduce
sustainable practices and
design.

13. Karen Warman
Resene Paints Ltd
One Resene factory can
consume more than 45
tons of raw materials (the
same weight as 90,000
blocks of butter) in one
day. We educate
ourselves and others on
the environmental
impacts of raw material
selection and proactively
purchase raw materials
with lower environmental
impacts.

14. URS New Zealand provides
engineering and environmental
expertise to people and
projects in communities. Kerry
Griffiths is the Principal
Sustainability Consultant -
Informally she is the companies
sustainability challenger and
conscience. Mark Drury CEO,
describes Kerry as “an
innovator, a leader, an educator
and a motivator”.

EcoMatters Environment Trust
EcoMatters was formed in
2002 with the primary
purpose of supporting
environmental trusts located
in Waitakere City. In the last
2 years Kevin Healy has
facilitated the growth and
development of the
organisation from a local
resource to a regional one.
Staff and project numbers
have grown from 14
employees in July 2008 to 35
today

16. Maggie Lawton & Towards 2060 Team
Maggie Lawton brought
together a small core team
from within council with
further skills and expertise
from The Natural Step,
Otago Polytechnic,
Transition Towns New
Zealand, Enviroschools
and SBN to develop the
‘Towards 2060 community
engagement’

17. Megan Salole (Nee Hosking)
Intersect Trust
Megan had a vision
about 5 years ago –
people need ways to
connect to people in
more meaningful ways
around the converging
crises that our world
and communities are
facing. She teamed up
with several young
professionals and
established a charitable
trust called Intersect.

18. Michael Field
North Shore City Council
Corporate Sustainability
practitioner who has worked
with a number of large
companies on topics ranging
from designing and
implementing sustainability
programmes, developing
Carbon Inventories to
Sustainability Reporting
Frameworks and report
assurance. Most recently for
North Shore City Council as
Sustainability Manager.

19. Paul Chambers
Auckland Regional Council
Project Leader of
Sustainability at ARC Paul’s
role was to be cost effective
and fiscally responsible, while
delivering significant resource
efficiency and emissions
reductions outcomes – all this
at no cost to the ratepayer.
Paul is now the Sustainability
Leader for the new Auckland
Council.

New Zealand Business Council for Sustainable
Development
A CEO-led non-profit business
organisation aimed at
mainstreaming sustainable
practice by influencing policy
and business. The Business
Council was established 10 years
ago by 23 chief executives.
Members believe business

fail and have a role in
encouraging not only economic
growth but improving the
environment and society.

The Project Twin Streams
community coordinators are a
group of highly motivated
change agents. They are dogged
and determined - with a real
passion in their hearts to make a
difference. They can be difficult
to work with but that is only
because they have limited
tolerance for process. They

making a difference.
