2. Digestive System Digestive comes from the word Digestion which is the break down of food into smaller components Digestion breaks down large food molecules to smaller ones
3. The Mouth First part of the digestive system, where food enters the body Chewing and salivary enzymes in the mouth are the beginning of the digestive process
4. The Escophagus Is a long tube between the mouth and the stomach Uses rhythmic muscle movements to force food from the throat into the stomach
5. The Small Intestine The small intestine is divided into 3 segments The 3 segments are the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum
6. The Large Intestine parts of the food that can’t be digested get pushed into the large intestine The large intestine is also called the colon.
7. The Rectum the lower part of the large intestine also where feces (which is the waste) are stored before they are excreted
8. The Pancreas makes and delivers digestive juices juices then go through a tube called the pancreatic duct to the upper part of the small intestine
9. The Liver a large organ located in front of the stomach filters toxins from the blood, and makes bile (which breaks down fats) and some blood proteins
