management and sharing of health and social
care information to support patient care.

3. Clinical Terminology
Support and maintain:
• SNOMED CT
• Read codes
Mapping support to cope with the mixed
environment until SNOMED CT embedded
Helpdesk:
• Addition of new codes
• Queries regarding existing codes

4. Pharmacy Terminology
dm+d – dictionary of medicines and devices:
• Released every 4 weeks
• Linked to SNOMED CT
Helpdesk:
• Addition of new content
• Queries regarding existing content

5. Clinical Classifications Service
• Support and maintain:
– ICD the diagnoses classification
– OPCS the procedures classification
• Primarily used in admitted patient care
• Mapping from terminology to classifications
• Helpdesk
– Queries regarding the classifications
– Clinical coding queries

6. Interoperability
Service Offered
• Define the data elements and data models required to
be captured by sending systems – these can be
found in the NHS Data Model and Dictionary
• Define Clinical and business definitions to support
data extraction
• Create technical specifications for the transport of this
information
• Implementation Support and Education for
implementation (i.e. to help suppliers implement the
data set transport)
