1. UNIT #2: WELLNESS PROJECT –
PROMOTING RESPECT & TOLERANCE IN OUR COMMUNITY
OBJECTIVE:
• To promote and to protect the health of the community
• To be an advocate for health and wellness
• To raise awareness about the importance of respect and tolerance in our community
• To create a public service announcement (PSA) sound byte.
TASK:
• Students will create a 30-second PSA in the form of a sound byte
to raise awareness within the ISM community about topics related to respect and
tolerance.
• Students will complete project in groups of 3
• Students will use ‘AUDACITY’ software to complete project
CONSIDERATIONS:
• Sound bytes will be played at various ISM school events throughout the year
• Announcement must quickly catch the attention of all listeners
• Message must be appropriate and informative for the entire ISM community
• Students will be given planning time in Wellness class to formalize ideas/script
• Students will be given work periods in Computer class for editing technical aspects of
project
TOPICS (randomly selected by student groups):
• Bullying, Self Esteem, Respect, Tolerance, Hate, Cultural Awareness are some of the
major themes among the topic choices. Specific topic choices will be made in class.
EVALUATION:
Wellness Teacher Evaluation Responsibilities include:
• Hard Copy of script, Appropriateness of Message, Final Product, Student Involvement
Computer Teacher Evaluation Responsibilities include:
• Sound/effects, Music, Editing process, Use of software, Final product
Student Evaluation Responsibilities include:
• Self and Peer Evaluations
