TEXTILE MILLS ARE
Opening , blending and mixing
Carding
Combing
Spinning
Weaving and knitting
Desizing
Bleaching and dyeing
4. •CHARACTERISTICS OF WASTE WATER
* Waste waters from textile industries are
generally coloured , high in BOD, COD
suspended solids, highly alkaline and have a
fairly high temperature.
* They also contain toxic metals and
chemicals like sulphids , cholorides,
chromium salts etc.
5. EFFECTS
The suspended and colloidal matter clog the
pores of the soil and reduce its permeability.
The high alkalinity and salinity are harmful
to several crops and impair their growth.
The soluble dyes and colours in waste water
inhibits the process of sunlight penetration
and photosynthesis
6. •TREATMENT AND DISPOSAL
*Segregation of concentrated waste water
from stream .
*Practising the reuse of water
*Biological treatment methods also
employed.
*Oxidation ponds are used.
