Good evening and welcome to my seven minutes on using edmodo as an extension of your classroom. I presented recently at edmdodcon on using edmodo and many of these slides are from that presentation. I cannot remotely show you everything about edmodo in the time we have but I hope I may inspire some for you to look at it further.
These are the groups I currently have running. You will note the split reading groups since we run differentiated groups where students can choose the novels they read. Also French which is run by the French teacher. Scratch is just for fun.
I am now going to share with you some screen shots which reflect different ways we use edmodo in year 5 and which try to explain why we love it. This screen shot is a great example of a student going home, reflecting on her learning. Then taking it upon herself to add to that and extend herself outside of the classroom
This example shows a student role playing a character from our term one novel Frindle. We had students queuing up to pretend to be the various characters.

This sample shows just how our homework group works Anika is having difficulty with her homework so she asks for help. The girls who respond do not give her the answers but are there to assist her. The interesting thing about this for us is that this occurs across the year group, with no regard for friendship issues. And if you know girls at this age this can be an age for huge friendship issues.
This example is showing how I have uploaded some student work samples into one of this terms reading groups. The girls love this way of showing off each others work. Since these reading groups are differentiated this sample will be reflective of the standard in that group.
Here is an example of one of our homework thinking questions. The girls love to answer these in edmodo. Since edmodo is fresh and clean to look at. It has a facebook feel which they love. We are finding many girls use it every night to repond, think and learn in.
This sample shows us collaborating with another school in Victoria. We both studied Australian bush poetry together. This class created a movie to share with us and we were able to respond with fotobables. All of which were quick to upload and easy to make.
This is the ozedmodo group a network of Australian teachers networking and sharing resources together. The code is there for you if you too would like to join.
So here we have it. Edmodo the basics
And here are my details I am happy to talk more afterwards or you can visit my blog and read some of the posts I have written on the why and how of edmodo in year 5. Thanks
