KITCHEN DRAIN

2. 1. Remove Everything
The first preliminary
step is to remove
every obvious
cloggage from the
sink area. If this
doesn’t work, proceed
to the next step...
3. 2. Using a Plunger
Step 1:
Boil some water in a
kettle or large pot, and
pour it into the sink. Be
prepared for some rising
hot steam when pouring
into the blocked drain!
4. 2a. Using a Plunger
Step 2:
Use a coat hanger or
something similar to ensure
the boiling water seeps into
the blockage. With any luck,
this might dislodge the
problem waste, too.
5. 2b. Using a Plunger
Step 3: Get Plunging!
Place the plunger over the drain and
use an aggressive plunging motion
- but slowly and forcefully. Let the
plunger take hold and work in
vertical movements.
Check if the water drains normally. If
so, you’ve done the job!
6. 3. Cleaning Chemicals
There are lots of drain
unblocking chemicals on
the market, but these can
be considered unwelcome
in a family home. There
are alternatives...
7. 3a. Baking Soda & Vinegar
Baking soda + water is a
fearsome combination.
Pour a cup of baking soda
down the drain, and then
a cup of vinegar on top.
Wait for 5 minutes and
then pour some boiling
water down to follow.
8. Safety First!
Remember that when you’re
trying to unblock a drain with
a plunger, with chemicals, or
with the baking soda &
vinegar solution, safety is
paramount. Always wear
rubber gloves and if the
blockage won’t budge, call a
professional.
9. If in doubt, call a plumber!...
Heppelthwaite Red Van Plumbers can fix the drain
blockage for you if you can’t budge it.
