30. The city of Turin saved 30,000 euros by using sheep to mow lawns at three public parks. In Pasture in the City, cows were also used during the
experimental first year, but because they produced too much manure they have not returned. Traffic is diverted for the herd of sheep to enter
the city. After the animals are rotated through fenced-off parks for two months, they return to the Alps for the remainder of the summer. The

Collaboration with Marcus Ahlers (2009). Solar still which purifies water from the Choluteca river and returns the cleansed water to the river. Made of
rubble from destroyed houses found at the site. Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
40. Georg Dietzler is a Curator's Choice Artist from Germany whose sculptural work explores the fascinating generative properties of
the natural world. In recent years he has created experimental installations using Oyster mushrooms for bioremediation of soil
contaminated with PCB's (polychlorinated biphenyls). These highly toxic industrial pollutants are effectively neutralized through the
cultivation of gourmet mushrooms on contaminated land.

Concrete Creek
A stream is contaminated with concrete
due to its proximity to a quarry and
concrete factory. The artist-scientists
collaboration introduces a new perception,
whereby the stream will be ecologically,
artistically, socially, botanically,
environmentally and hydrologically
reclaimed. The contaminators thus become
artists, helping clean-out the stream. Via a
slow process, environmental awareness is
gained. The biotic and a-biotic
environments are treated while
contemplating issues concerning the
nature of reclamation and the possibility of
leaving "experiential traces" of this eyesore
as reminder for future generations.
Combined reclamation allows investment
in the stream's surroundings and in human
resources.
The artworks are intended to solve an
ecological problem too. No one discipline
takes its course for granted as
predominant, thus allowing a multi-layered
practice of total reclamation, expanding
the cycle of environmental responsibility
for water sources in general, and those in
Israel in particular.

45. FUTURE FARMERS
Rainwater Harvester/Greywater System Feedback Loop is a water saving system made from salvaged materials. It stores two
types of water–water that normally runs away while becoming hot and rain water. The water is stored in the 3 small
recycling bins which can also be used as benches to sit upon. The hand crank device on the right is used to pump stored
water back to the sink to be used at a later time. The sink is equip with a variable drain allowing you to decide to let
your water run back into the storage units, into the greywater system to the garden or out to the city system.

The three salvaged minivans are planted with several different ethnobotanical plant species which are native to the coastal regions of the Eastern
United States and have proven capable of providing excellent nutrition for human beings, as well as supplying other substances and materials useful
to our species. These plants are considered "heirloom" varieties because of their long history of usefulness to humans, but they are currently
threatened with extinction. Major seed companies prefer varieties which are easier to grow, better looking, and in some cases, lend themselves more
readily to genetic engineering of plant stock.
