4. Rebecca Adlington was born on the 17th
February 1989, which makes her now 23.
She was born in Mansfield but she now lives
in Nottingham.
5. Eager to get in the pool, Rebecca was
seven when she started to swim on
holiday. Soon after, she started to swim
at the Sherwood colliery swimming club.

6. At a young age, she attended the ` Brunts
school` but before this, she went to
Broomhill School. Sometimes, her
swimming got in the way of her learning.

8. At the age of 19, Rebecca could barely
contain her excitement after meeting
the Queen. She said,
“This is amazing! It has definitely topped off
the best year of my life! Getting the OBE
is an honour up there with the gold
medals.”
9. Adlington shared that the preparation for
the 2012 Olympic Games is going well
and she is very excited.

10. Rebecca Adlington is the Ambassador of
the Encephalitis Charity . This fatal
disease is a life threatening illness
because it causes injuries to the Brain.
She joined this charity because her sister
Laura was affected by this horrible
Disease.

11. Rebecca was the first GB woman swimmer
to win gold since 1960!
Quickly ( at the Beijing Olympics) she
became a swimming sensation after
winning two gold medals.
