Hittesh ahuja embarking on a journey as a moodle developer

  1. I was previously working for Edinburgh Napier which introduced me to moodle.i was there for about a year at the Information Services then I moved to bath and have been working here as systems developer for about 18 months now. Coming from a commercial background before Napier, everything was about client requirements , deadlines and maximising profits. Working in a University,  as I realised over time is a different ball game altogether. Here student and staff satisfaction comes first, and as it rightly should be, it's all about learning and teaching! I hope this presentation takes you through my journey as a moodle developer and what challenges ( sometimes fun! ) I face in my day to day work.
  2. This is a bark from our organisation tree. As you can see I am placed here, which I believe is a bit odd place to be because you would expect a web developer to be in the Computing Team. Working closely with the academic staff and student community.BUCS has 126 –staff members, with 22 developers, 17 % are developersLTEO- 80 staff members, 1 developer.
  3. The oue blockUser groupsCommunication with SITS department and Computer Services this is a very simple but effective block that displays all the evaluations of a user based on their userid.  It will show a batr and a notification bar as well. This was quite an interesting project from a pedagogical point of view as we were trying to balance student satisfaction by getting more  evaluations completed in a service that would be used by students daily, hence making it appealing it to students. There were a lot of discussion between our team and the bucs team on how the data can be best extracted and redirected to the Unit evaluation page for completion.Screenshot explainarionStats - 13% overall rise in evaluation for semester 1 since the launch 
  4. I have highlighted here the three departments in our university that have achieved an outstanding reponse for their unit evaluation. Since the addition of the block we have seen an average of 21 % rise which was really appreciated by the director of studies.
