1. Insecurities
"When you are insecure about a certain thing, you try to cover it up with
something else.”
“Anxiety, despair, doubts, and lack of trust leave no one immune to
insecurities. “
Causes for insecurities include:
1. Childhood experiences such as lack of encouragement or unrealistic
expectations
2. Mobility and change such as a move to a new town or promotion
3. Crisis such as divorce, loss of employment, or middle age.
4 major characteristics in insecurities:
1. Aggressiveness (Impatient and work dominated. More often they have
deep hidden anger brought about by well entrenched insecurities. They are
overly competitive people who work too much and relax too little.)
2. 2. Addictive behavior
3. Over dependence on people or things
4. Effective behavior (meaning being self conscious and pre-occupied with
the reaction of other people)
5. Criticism (tearing other people down to build themselves up)
1 Kings 19:4
Matthew 26:33-35
2 Corinthians 1-8
Romans 7:18-24
“Believers will face trials that are at times unexpected or have no discernable
purpose and such adversities can overwhelm our efforts to understand and
rationalize, but these examples of great people of faith demonstrate the
experience of stress and despair and how it can be great spiritual growth.”
Psalm 56:3-4
Isaiah 12:2
3. “The key to triumph over fear and insecurities is in a fervent trust in God.”
Proverbs 3:5
Proverbs 28:26
“Trusting in God means we must give up our will, ideas and desires in His
hands. Many who are control freaks don’t want to relinquish their lives to
another. We don’t believe that God loves us fully or has our best interest at
heart. It takes a unique relationship to allow that measure of surrender.”
“Most of us claim to trust God but at the first sign of trouble we assume that
God doesn’t love us, but we must understand that such a trial is a measure
of how much trust we have in Him.
James 1:2-4
Romans 8:28
Hebrews 12:2
2 Corinthians 4:17-18
4. “Through our trust, our relationship with God strengthens and our love for Him
grows.”
“We can put out trust into many things in this world, but none offer the
protection plan, long term security, or benefits that trusting in God offers.”
1 John 2:16-17
1 Peter 5:6-7
Philippians 4:6
“To be insecure is to lack confidence or trust whether in ourselves or in
someone else. The chief cause of insecurity is not fully trusting in God.”
Jeremiah 17:7-8
Psalm 9:10
“In Satan’s arsenal, one of his biggest weapons is doubt. He loves for us to
question who we are and how we measure up to others. He wants us to feel
insecure in the meaning and purpose of our lives, where we are going and how
we are getting there.”
5. “Another cause for feelings of insecurity is a reliance on wealth and
possessions instead of a reliance on God.”
Ephesians 2:1-2
Ephesians 6:12
1 Samuel 16:7
“Riches being uncertain will certainly bring insecurities to those who trust in
them.”
1 Timothy 6:17
Mark 10:23-25
Luke 12:16-21
“Many times insecurities can take the form of worry about the future.”
Matthew 6:31-34
“Worries and fear about the future are rooted in a doubt of God provision. This
brings strong feelings of insecurity and a lack of peace resulting in fear and
depression.”
6. “When we doubt God, satan wins.”
Philippians 4:6
1 Peter 5:8
“Insecurity may also result from being preoccupied with things of the world.”
1 John 2:15
“Other people, when they are insecure in the body of Christ, put their trust in their
pastor and other church leaders. Only Christ is the sure foundation.”
Isaiah 28:16
“Often the reason for our insecurities is an undue preoccupation with ourselves
and an "all about me" mentality.”
Romans 12:3
