- This is our middle school theme this year. We spend time in four projects including fitness, garden and food, history and documentation and familiarization with the wa`a.
- We are a project based and place based school with a Hawaiian focus.
- Orientation of the night sky. Hawaiian navigators were very familiar with the night sky during their voyaging and especially the moon cycle as a guide to fishing, planting and harvesting crops, ceremonies and much more.
- Hawaiians passed stories and information orally. At Kanu we incorporate this by having students, that have learned and practiced information and concepts, pass this on to younger keiki or children.
- In the shadow of Mauna Kea
- Traveled to Colorado Springs, CO and learned new information and resources to use in my classroom as a way of expanding the experiences of our students.
- Students blend the cultural experiences with science as a way of knowing.
- Space center learning about weather…Science on a sphere just like the one at Imiloa.
