Unlocking livestock development potential through science, influence and capacity development ILRI APM, Addis Ababa, 15-17 May 2013 Introducing the Animal Sciences for Sustainable Productivity (ASSP) program at ILRI This document is licensed for use under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 Unported Licence , May 2013 Outcome Increased animal production and productivity with: • Increased environmental health • Reduced poverty • Improved human nutrition and health Objectives 1. To improve animal feeding 2. To improve animal health and health delivery 3. To develop and promote more productive and adapted strains/breed types 4. To develop and promote more productive livestock and farming systems Animal Feeding Animal breeding strategies Animal health Livestock/Farming systems Staff 29 scientists, 3 post docs, 15 technicians/specialists/communications, 10 research officers/technicians/assistants, 14 admin/support staff located in Kenya, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Sri-Lanka, India, Uganda, Mozambique, and Senegal How Animal Biosciences Feed and Forage Biosciences Four components of the program delivering the corresponding outcome through R4D are: Contributing to CRPs Drylands Humid Tropics Policies, Institutions and Markets Livestock and Fish Agriculture for Nutrition and Health Water, Land and Ecosystems CCAFS Vaccine Platform

To develop and promote more productive livestock and farming systems Animal Feeding Animal breeding strategies Animal health Livestock/Farming systems Staff 29 scientists, 3 post docs, 15 technicians/specialists/communications, 10 research officers/technicians/assistants, 14 admin/support staff located in Kenya, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Sri-Lanka, India, Uganda, Mozambique, and Senegal How Animal Biosciences Feed and Forage Biosciences Four components of the program delivering the corresponding outcome through R4D are: Contributing to CRPs Drylands Humid Tropics Policies, Institutions and Markets Livestock and Fish Agriculture for Nutrition and Health Water, Land and Ecosystems CCAFS Vaccine Platform
