 It is a directive by the European Union, which intends to create
a common market for measuring instruments across the EU.
The MID covers a wide range of measuring instruments
including gas, water and electricity Meters.
 Annex MI-001 applies to Water meters
 Became EU law for meters placed on the market after 30
October 2006
 Interpretation of the scope of what is included varies from
country to country
 “Large” Industrial meters are generally considered to be
