Cloud adoption is pushing organizations to consider cloud-based email security gateways (ESGs) to combat new email threats. ESGs have developed since the 2000s in response to spam and other unwanted emails. Recent targeted email attacks have increased the need for ESGs to protect against credential compromise and intellectual property theft. Vendors are now focusing on integrated security solutions that can analyze traffic across the internet, email, and other systems to detect unknown attacks using multiple tools. As threats become more advanced, ESG providers are making their offerings more robust to meet the market demand for cloud-based solutions.
