a CAGR of 30 percent over the last five years. This glaring gap has
forced end-users to rethink their coal sourcing strategies to meet their
requirement. Considering the limitation in availability of domestic coal
supply from FSAs and E-auction, the only favorable option left with coal
consumers is import.
The prices in the global coal market are volatile and presently are
under downward pressure due to oversupply conditions (as shown in
figure). As per IEA, India is expected to become largest importer of coal
by early 2020.
