Engineering Industry is one of the largest divisions in India. India has a large number of

Special Economic Zones (SEZs). In our report “Engineering Industry in India”, the Indian

engineering sectors includes the heavy and light engineering segments.

Heavy engineering segment comprises heavy electrical, heavy engineering and machinery

tools and automotives. The first, heavy electrical includes the segment covers such as boilers,

turbine, switch gear, control gear, transformers and generators. The second, heavy engineering

and machinery tools includes such as the textile machinery, cement machinery, sugar machinery,

dairy machinery, material handling equipment, rubber machinery etc.

And the third, automotive includes such as auto components, agricultural machinery etc.

Electrical machinery is a sub-segment of the segment of heavy engineering and in India; this

sector caters mainly to the electricity sector.

Light engineering segment comprises low technology products and high technology

products. The first, low technology product includes roller bearing, casting and forging, pipes and

tubes etc. High technology product includes domestic appliances, electronics, medical and

surgical instrument etc. Most of the products in the light engineering industry serve as input for

the capital goods industry.

The strength of the light engineering industry is therefore utter by the demand for capital

goods. The reports “Engineering Industry in India” states regarding machinery and equipment

registered with percent, based on the industrial production index. A number of schemes are

taken by the government to promote the engineering division that are SEZ (Special Economic

Zone), Industrial Corridor Development, Incentives for R&D activities, Removal of tariff

protection on capital goods, infrastructure development and construction to increase electricity

generation.

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is catered between 2000 to 2010 on the aspect of
