New – Baby, it’s cold outside – protect yourself, property, workplace
Protect yourself from cold weather injuries. Check out this SlideShare document, and get fast
facts as well as detailed injury-prevention techniques.
For more information, see Department of Health and Human Services’ website at
www.cdc.gov/niosh/topics/outdoor.
Protect property: When there’s an ice or snow storm, remember not to park your vehicle
under trees with low hanging branches as the vehicle could be damaged when branches break
and fall.
Workplace Preparedness –In preparedness for upcoming severe weather, ensure the
following for all buildings and barracks:
 Close and secure all exterior windows and doors
 Verify that all rooms in facility have functioning heat
 Disconnect all exterior hoses and verify that spigots are in the off position
The temperature is dropping, and we already had two buildings where pipes burst due to
severe weather conditions. Building coordinators are addressing these issues now, but if you see
where there could be a problem and your building coordinator is not available, contact the
DPW work order desk at 703-696-3263.

Feel better, look better, smell GOOD – stop smoking!
Never mind a resolution. Just stop smoking. Get help, make a plan, register at
www.ucanquit2.org and use the tools available to kick the tobacco habit.
Inhaling tobacco smoke turns harmful chemicals loose in your lungs and blood stream,
sending toxins to every organ in your body. It’s a fact that smoking and tobacco use cause
cancer, heart disease, strokes, emphysema, bronchitis and airway obstructions.
Talk to the Rader Clinic folks who have resources to help military personnel and their family
members. Get an appointment for tobacco cessation counseling by calling the Rader
appointment line at 1-855-227-6331.
Those not eligible to use Rader, check in at www.ucanquit2.org.
