NEW – Back-to-school brigade out front with backpacks
“Operation Homefront DC Metro” is happy to announce there are 5,000 backpacks to
hand out this summer to military children. Each backpack is full of school supplies and
all children of active duty, E6 and below, are eligible to get a backpack. The backpacks
will be handed out at five locations the second week of August as follows:
Monday, Aug. 12 - Woodbridge, Va. (between Quantico and Fort Belvoir)
Tuesday, Aug. 13 - California, Md. (near Pax River)
Wednesday, Aug. 14 - Lanham, Md. (near Fort Meade)
Thursday, Aug. 15 - Morningside, Md. (near Joint Base Andrews)
Friday, Aug. 16 - Aberdeen, Md. (near Aberdeen Proving Grounds)
Families will have to register to receive the backpacks. Do this by going to the
website www.operationhomefront.net/dcmetro.
Furlough Closures on JBM-HH
Due to sequestration, furlough closures have begun on JBM-HH. For a full list of the
closures visit www.army.mil/article/107077/. Updates will be made as additional
information becomes available. Call ahead to the facility or activity you wish to visit for
more details.
NEW – Bulletin to be published Tuesdays during furlough
Note: All Bulletin requests must be submitted by close of business Thursday in order
to be used in the following Tuesday’s Bulletin. Monday Bulletin production will resume at
the end of mandated furloughs Monday, Sept. 30.
NEW – Furlough days/hours change for health clinics
*The U.S. Army Health Clinic at Fort McNair is closed on Fridays until Sept. 30 due to
furloughs. Hours of operation Monday through Thursday are from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
For emergency services call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room as the clinic is not
equipped for emergencies.

*The Pentagon's DiLorenzo Health Clinic notes changes in pharmacy hours: The DiLorenzo
TRICARE Health Clinic pharmacy is now closed from noon to 1 p.m. every day. Weekdays:
open from 7 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m. (except the fourth Thursday of the month). On
the fourth Thursday of the month, the pharmacy will be open from 7 to 11 a.m. Use of the
DiLorenzo Pharmacy is limited to those who are authorized to use military medical facilities
and who have unescorted access to the Pentagon. Get more information at

NEW – EMHD closure update
Although the Executive Management and Housing Directorate will be closed on
Fridays due to furloughs, family housing residents should continue calling service
orders, 24/7 to Meckley Services at 703-696-2623.
Barracks residents will continue calling service orders in to Public Works at 703-696-
3263.

NEW – ASAP clinical services relocating
Army Substance Abuse Program Clinical Services will be closed today, July 23
through July 28 while the office is relocated from Building 406 to Building 230, Room
122 on the Fort Myer portion of the joint base.

NEW – Job search classes scheduled
The MCCS Career Resource Management Center has classes scheduled in July to
assist service members and their families with their job searches. The next class is
“Social Media and Your Job Search” Wednesday, July 24 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in
Building 29 on the Henderson Hall side of the joint base. This will explain how to use
social media, including LinkedIn.
Also, Adecco will be on site Wednesday July 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (also Building
29) to conduct a military spouse career connections intake session.
Aug. 6 from 9 to 11 a.m., “Interviewing 101” will present the secret to becoming the
candidate by preparing for interviews. On Aug. 8, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., learn to build
your network to access the hidden job market by tapping into social networking sites.
On Aug. 21, from 9 a.m. to noon, learn how to market yourself for a second career. On
Aug. 22, “Cracking the Code to the Federal Hiring Process” is held from 1 to 3 p.m. This
class explains how to apply for federal jobs, including how to prepare the appropriate
résumé. Adecco will be on site Aug. 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., to conduct a military
spouse career connections intake session. All sessions are in Building 29 on the
Henderson Hall side of the joint base, and registration is required by calling 703-614-
6828.

NEW – New in Town?
Marine Corps Community Services has a wealth of information for newly arrived
Marines and their Families. The next Welcome Aboard brief is Tuesday, Aug. 13, from 8
to 10:30 a.m., at the Marine Club aboard the Henderson Hall portion of Joint Base Myer-
Henderson Hall. A free walking tour of the Henderson Hall portion follows the brief,
and, after a break for lunch, there is a bus tour of the local area, including downtown
Washington, D.C., starting at 12:30 p.m. To register for the Welcome Aboard brief, call

In addition, classes on the Marine Corps lifestyle, information on the local area, a
lending locker and other resources are available through Marine and Family Programs.

NEW – Twilight Tattoo performances run through August
Twilight Tattoo, Wednesdays through Aug. 28, is an hour-long military pageant
featuring Soldiers from the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) and The U.S.
Army Band "Pershing's Own."
This Wednesday’s Twilight Tattoo, July 24, is a special Tattoo to commemorate the
60th anniversary of the signing of the Korean War Armistice, hosted by the Honorable
Joseph W. Westphal, the 30th under secretary of the Army. Korean War veterans, Medal
of Honor recipients and members of Congress will be in attendance. See

Twilight Tattoos are free and open to the public. Grass seating is available, and we

Fort Myer Thrift Shop new summer hours
The Fort Myer Thrift Shop summer schedule: open Tuesday and Wednesday in July
and August from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and closed on Thursdays. The Thrift Shop will
not accept consignments of shoes and clothing during the summer months schedule.

New Aquatics training for Marines
MCCS Semper Fit is now offering AMP-IT (Aquatics Maximum Power Intense
Training) for active duty and reserve Marines only. Sessions are Tuesdays and
Thursdays 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in the Maj. Douglas A.
Zembiec Pool.

Youth Sports & Fitness presents Challenger Sports British Soccer
Camp
The SKIES program is offering swimming lessons this summer: Session 5 is from
Aug. 5 to 15.
There will also be one session of British Multi-Sports, July 29 to Aug. 2 from 9 a.m.
to noon for ages 5 to 16 years.
Youth Sports and Fitness is also offering one remaining session of British Soccer this
summer from Aug. 19 through 23, from 9 a.m. to noon for ages 5 to 16 years, and from 4
to 5:30 p.m. for ages 3 to 5 years.

NEW – Gen. Powell book-signing at the MCX
Retired Army Gen. Colin L. Powell, former Secretary of State and Chairman of the
Joint Chiefs of Staff, will sign copies of his latest book, “It Worked for Me: In Life and
Leadership,” Thursday, July 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Henderson Hall Marine
Corps Exchange. The memoir, which begins with his “Thirteen Rules,” expounds on
Powell’s life lessons and stories, on principles that shaped his life and career, and on
being a great manager or leader. Books will be available for purchase, and Department
of Defense personnel without Exchange privileges are welcome to bring books to be
signed. Everyone is encouraged to arrive early, and service members in uniform will
have priority.

The Army and Air Force Exchange Service is turning 118 years old. To thank

2013 JBM-HH Army Ten Miler qualifiers
Registration is open for this year’s 2013 JBM-HH Army Ten Miler Team qualifiers.
This year’s Army Ten Miler will be Sunday, Oct. 20. FMWR will host an ATM qualifier
this summer for active duty military Friday, July 26. The ATM qualifier will be a 10K
race on Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall beginning at 6:35 a.m. at the Fort Myer Fitness
Center, Building 414. On-line registration will close on Wednesday, July 24. Race day
registration will be accepted from 5:30 to 6:15 a.m. inside the Fort Myer Fitness Center,
Building 414.

Summer Outdoor Movie Series

Golf Tournament
Tourney registration is now open for the Sept. 27 Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall
Family and Morale, Welfare, and Recreation will host the Inaugural SLICE of Summer
Scramble golf tournament. The tournament will be played on Fort Belvoir's Gunston
Golf Course. The tournament format will be four person teams playing a best ball
scramble. Awards will be given based on the group or team’s overall score. There will
also be special contests for longest drive, closest to pin, longest putt and hole in
one. Each person can register with a buddy or as a team of four. Registration is $70 per
person which includes green fees, cart, range bucket, $8 gift certificate to pro shop and
BBQ meal package.

Headquarters and Service Battalion, HQ Marine Corps, Henderson Hall will host a
“Family Day” Saturday, Aug. 3 at Kings Dominion. Deadline to purchase tickets is
Thursday, July 25. Discount admission and meal package includes all day admission to
the theme park and 20-acre water park, plus an all-you-can-eat buffet meal: H&S Bn.,
HQMC, Henderson Hall Marines and their family members pay $15 each; H&S Bn.,
HQMC, Henderson Hall civilians, pay $20 each. $10 parking also available.

Anger Management
An Anger Management (Introductory level presentation for adults) class is
Wednesday, July 24 and Wednesday, Aug. 28 from 9 to 11 a.m. in the ACS classroom,

Individuals will receive information on the basic principles of emotions
management, specific information about the impact of unmanaged anger and receive
resources on how to recognize and manage the anger triggers in their own lives.

Autism class slated
The Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall's Army Exceptional Family Member Program is
sponsoring "Top Ten Things You Need to Know About the IEP Process and Extended
School Year" for military and DoD civilian parents with children with autism and other
cognitive disabilities Thursday, Aug. 8 from noon to 3 p.m. The class will be held in
Building 201 on the Fort Myer side of the joint base. Guest speaker will be Army Lt. Col.
Scott Campbell, parent of an autistic child and board member of the Autism Society of
America's northern Virginia chapter. Learn about IEP navigation and extended school
year services and network with other families in your situation. Reservations are
required. Child care will not be provided.

International Spouse Group to meet
Join a forum that offers international military spouses an opportunity to meet other

Participants will complete a stress profile and receive information on the impact that

side of the joint base.

Baby Bundles
Join us Thursday, Aug. 22 from noon to 2 p.m. for “Baby Bundles,” our next class for
couples or individuals expecting a child or with an infant under one year old. Class will
be in Building 201 on the Fort Myer side of the joint base. Participants will get
information on the labor and delivery process, newborn and mother care, home - infant
safety, and discuss strategies for navigating the change in relationship dynamics when a
child arrives. Each participant will receive a bag containing parenting resources, baby

Make it a ‘Smooth Move’
“Smooth Move” is an informal joint service brief for service members planning to
PCS, and will be held Thursday, Aug. 29 from 1 to 3 p.m. Learn about your new duty

Transportation Office, Sponsorship, housing and more in Building 12 on the Henderson
Hall side of the joint base.

News NEW – Back-to-school brigade out front with backpacks “Operation Homefront DC Metro” is happy to announce there are 5,000 backpacks to hand out this summer to military children. Each backpack is full of school supplies and all children of active duty, E6 and below, are eligible to get a backpack. The backpacks will be handed out at five locations the second week of August as follows: Monday, Aug. 12 - Woodbridge, Va. (between Quantico and Fort Belvoir) Tuesday, Aug. 13 - California, Md. (near Pax River) Wednesday, Aug. 14 - Lanham, Md. (near Fort Meade) Thursday, Aug. 15 - Morningside, Md. (near Joint Base Andrews) Friday, Aug. 16 - Aberdeen, Md. (near Aberdeen Proving Grounds) Families will have to register to receive the backpacks. Do this by going to the website www.operationhomefront.net/dcmetro. NEW – Furlough days/hours change for health clinics *The U.S. Army Health Clinic at Fort McNair is closed on Fridays until Sept. 30 due to furloughs. Hours of operation Monday through Thursday are from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. For emergency services call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room as the clinic is not equipped for emergencies. For more information call the clinic at 202-685-3100. *The Pentagon's DiLorenzo Health Clinic notes changes in pharmacy hours: The DiLorenzo TRICARE Health Clinic pharmacy is now closed from noon to 1 p.m. every day. Weekdays: open from 7 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m. (except the fourth Thursday of the month). On the fourth Thursday of the month, the pharmacy will be open from 7 to 11 a.m. Use of the DiLorenzo Pharmacy is limited to those who are authorized to use military medical facilities and who have unescorted access to the Pentagon.   • 3. The MCCS Career Resource Management Center has classes scheduled in July to assist service members and their families with their job searches. The next class is “Social Media and Your Job Search” Wednesday, July 24 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in Building 29 on the Henderson Hall side of the joint base. This will explain how to use social media, including LinkedIn. Also, Adecco will be on site Wednesday July 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (also Building 29) to conduct a military spouse career connections intake session. Aug. 6 from 9 to 11 a.m., “Interviewing 101” will present the secret to becoming the candidate by preparing for interviews. On Aug. 8, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., learn to build your network to access the hidden job market by tapping into social networking sites. On Aug. 21, from 9 a.m. to noon, learn how to market yourself for a second career. On Aug. 22, “Cracking the Code to the Federal Hiring Process” is held from 1 to 3 p.m. This class explains how to apply for federal jobs, including how to prepare the appropriate résumé.   • 6. 2013 JBM-HH Army Ten Miler qualifiers Registration is open for this year’s 2013 JBM-HH Army Ten Miler Team qualifiers. This year’s Army Ten Miler will be Sunday, Oct. 20. FMWR will host an ATM qualifier this summer for active duty military Friday, July 26. The ATM qualifier will be a 10K race on Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall beginning at 6:35 a.m. at the Fort Myer Fitness Center, Building 414. On-line registration will close on Wednesday, July 24. The tournament will be played on Fort Belvoir's Gunston Golf Course. The tournament format will be four person teams playing a best ball scramble. Awards will be given based on the group or team’s overall score. There will also be special contests for longest drive, closest to pin, longest putt and hole in one.
